You can't see shadow zones from outside your window, so they don't exist.

I think most of this site is trolls trolling other trolls that they don't know are trolls. One troll posts a flat earth post, other trolls think it's a genuine post and post trolly replies, and the original troll thinks they're genuine replies and enjoys having successfully trolled some FE believers. Overall, I think there are about 3 genuine believers on this site.

With regards to the colour, the earth looks brown in the first image because everything was brown in the 1970s.

I don't know why I set my username as daftpunk. M83 are actually much better.

Does anyone actually like Daft Punk?

Blue is a better color than red.
Does anyone actually like red?

How good a colour is is subjective. Daft Punk is objectively terrible. I genuinely wonder if anyone actually likes them.

I think this shows that mentioning Hitler, even in a meta-discussion (whereby you specifically mention the fact that you're mentioning Hitler, and make it clear that there is no real reason to do so), can derail a thread completely, and help avert the conversation away from any difficult-to-answer points that were brought up previously.

This could be a useful tactic to employ in the future.

A variant of Godwin's Law states that as an internet discussion increases in length, the probability of someone mentioning Hitler approaches 1.

Now feels like a good time to do so.

Round Earthers like to stifle free speech like Hitler did.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Round Earthers - explain this? (plus, hello!)
« on: June 26, 2016, 03:26:21 PM »
The Earth is indeed de-spining, but its not for what you think. Since the atmosphere is moving at the same speed as the Earth, and winds and other fluctuations more or less average themselves, the despin is minimal. The actual major agents in day length fluctuation are the Moon's escape, and the glacial rebound.
Due to the tidal effect between the Moon and the Earth, the Moon is slowly gaining speed, and therefore getting farther away from the Earth. Due to the law of conservation of angular momentum, it's obvious that speed must be gained from somewhere. That somewhere is Earth's rotation.
During the Ice Age, the Earth's high latitudes where covered in ice. This ice caused a slight depression in the tectonic plates, that slightly deformed the shape of the Earth. The mantle is still recovering the original shape, with a net effect of an increase of moment of inertia, causing the Earth to despin (This is similar to how ice skaters can spin really fast by stretching, then slow down by spreading).
But take into account that this despin is MINIMAL. We are talking miliseconds a year. 620 million years ago, a day lasted 21.9 hours.

To be honest that was actually quite interesting - thanks!

I basically just did the thought experiment by imagining myself on the flat earth, looking at the southern cross, and it looked beautiful in the sky.

10
The pole star is a bit of a red herring. It's all about perspective: as you get further from the star, it gets lower, because it's further away from you, so it's closer to the vanishing point.

11
That's okay, no need to apologise it's okay. I did the southern cross experiment with this model and it worked, but I did it as a thought experiment so I don't know how to share the results.

12
I didn't flee to Facebook: I've just been busy.

13
Fine, now answer this with your "model" or crawl back to facebook : https://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=67031.0

I did it and it works.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: What about the Moon?
« on: June 16, 2016, 03:31:56 PM »
If the moon and sun are only 5000km away and not 400,000km(moon distance) away wouldn't the reflected sun-light coming of the earth light up the whole moon?

Actually, this does happen. Whenever you see the sun and moon in the sky at the same time, it's always a full moon, because it's reflecting the earth.

Or it's all a computer simulation. Naaaaa.

I really enjoyed Elon Musk's little rant about the likelihood of us living in a simulation. It seems very reasonable, actually. Not sure that it ultimately makes much difference either way.

I meant the other side of the flat earth. Australia is part of our side of the Earth. It's nice to hear about your trip there - I agree that their accent is cool.

Maybe the other side contains other people and civilizations like our own, just having progressed differently. It could be that instead of the constant acceleration, there's a constant force that pulls everything to the center, and so people can actually live on both sides.

My hope is that when technology is advances enough, we will be able to contact this alternate civilization.

As Jaden Smith put it,

Quote
Reality And Perception Should Be The Same Word

basically, that we can only 'know' as much as we can experience as finite points of consciousness detecting the physical world through unreliable senses. If you are told something enough times, from birth, then you'll never question it, and it may even start to be true for you. I like this theory because it allows for things like satellites and star patterns and all that, while still allowing the Earth to be flat.

Good work.

OMG I JUST REALIZED NASA IZ SATAN!!!1
I MEAN JST LOOK AT THEIR LOGO!!1

DOESNT IT RSEMBLE SOMETHING!??

OMG DIS IS CLEARLY EVIDENCE THAT NASA IS AN EVUL ILLUMINISTIC, MASONIC, SATANIC, GOVERNMENTAL MIND-CONTROLLING ORGANISATION TRYING TOO DECEIVE US ALL!!!!!!111
U SHEEPLE NEED 2 WAKE UP!!1 DO SOME RESEARCH IDIOTSS!!1!!
NASA, THE GOVERNMENNT , ESA, CIA, EU, THEY R ALL CLERLY TRYING TO HIDE THE FACT THAT WE LIVE ON A FLAT EARTH!!!!1

ALSO, ANYONE WHO DSNT AGREE WITH ME AND POSTSS A RRPLY IS CLEARLY ALSO PART OF THE CONSPIRACY, OR A PAID SHILL BY NASA!!!!!!11..

Personally I don't really see it, but it's definitely an interesting idea. I've been researching the illuminati recently and a lot of it is starting to make sense, maybe with NASA being a part of it, or vice versa. I don't really know. Would be interested to hear some more opinions.

I found his explanation quite helpful actually.

Wait a tic. So lead is 100% lead and 0% atmosphere, meaning it must weigh more than styrofoam because styrofoam is only 20% styrofoam and 80% atmosphere. So the lead displaces more atmosphere.

So what about tungsten? Is that 100% tungsten? 150% titanium (you know, because it is denser than lead and one cubic meter of tungsten weighs more than a cubic meter of lead)? And Platinum? Gold? How much atmosphere do you think is in solid ice?

Obviously different metals have different porosities. I rounded to 100% for simplicity. Lead is probably about 70%. Nothing can ever really be 100% anything, because of the second law of thermodynamics.

The earth is round, so we represent it as such. I wonder how NASA went back in time to ancient greece, though... Satan is more powerful than I previosuly thought. Gotta send him more blood and cookies.
It's actually a Myth that ancient Greeks thought the earth was round. There's lots of evidence to suggest that they knew it was flat. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myth_of_the_flat_Earth

Heavier objects are only heavier to us solely because they displace more atmosphere.

So, one cubic meter of lead is heavier than one cubic meter of styrofoam
because they each displace the exact same amount of atmosphere?
They don't.

Precisely. Lead is 100% lead and 0% atmosphere, so it is heavier than styrofoam which is about 80% air.
Yep, so you'll understand what I'm getting at, right?

Yeah it's quite straightforward, imo.

26
This thread is full of logical fallacies. I think we need to address these before we debate it properly.
  • It relies on anecdotal evidence
  • It appeals to personal incredulity
  • It uses the 'Texas Sharpshooter' fallacy: starting with the conclusion and then trying to find evidence to fit
  • It shifts the burden of proof onto the wrong party
  • It uses the false cause fallacy
  • etc

Flat Earth Debate / Why a sphere?
« on: June 14, 2016, 03:44:39 PM »
We all (FE believers) know that RE is essentially a NASA fabrication. I'm just wondering why they chose a sphere, and not any other shape. Surely something like a cube would be easier to convince people of, because it allows for the flat horizons we see every day. Any thoughts?

Flat Earth Debate / Re: What about the Moon?
« on: June 14, 2016, 03:36:00 PM »
Shadows on the moon don't work like shadows on Earth. We can only experience and measure shadows within our own reality (Earth), so we have no reason to believe that the same phenomenon works the same on the moon. The shadows may be caused by curved light paths or by relativity. Just a couple of ideas. Great photo by the way!
