I've been running into this issue intermittently but kind a lot in the past month using Chrome with the site.

Specifically, often lately when I go to Reply to a post, hit "Quote", the whole formatting UI is missing, like this:

If I refresh once, sometimes twice, it comes back to normal:

It's just kind of a bummer because a lot of times I don't notice right away and either put in the manual BBcode or copy what I've written, refresh until I get the interface back, then paste and go about my business.

I'm guessing maybe it's a Chrome issue or maybe a plug-in I have. I've been doing some testing around the latter, but it still happens. Anyone else run into this?

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Belly-flop Successful
« on: March 03, 2021, 06:30:00 PM »
I totally missed this, super cool:

Watch SpaceX Starship SN10 launch and stick landing

Edit: I doubly missed this because apparently the bloody thing exploded a few minutes after successfully landing:

Well, at least they landed the thing this time.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Why Should We Go To Mars?
« on: February 19, 2021, 07:22:40 AM »
In light of Perseverance landing yesterday, I stumbled up this <5 minute explanation as to why Mars is important to explore.

Dr. Robert Zubrin lays it out threefold back in 2015:

- Mars is where the Science is
- Mars is where the Challenge is
- Mars is where the Future is

It's a pretty cool, impassioned summation. I'm digging it. There are arguments against, mainly, we've got our science, challenges and future here on earth, so why pour resources into the exploration of another planet. But I'm buying into his argument as well. Worth a watch, it goes by quick:

Suggestions & Concerns / Personal Message Timeout
« on: October 13, 2020, 06:10:25 PM »
You know that thing where you're writing a message to someone, you hit send or preview, it shows you are logged out and gives you the log-in screen? When writing a post and that happens you just log in, hit the back button and your post is still there. And then you can submit it. But with messaging, what you just wrote is gone. Is there some setting to make messaging behave the same as posting under this scenario and not lose what you had written?

Suggestions & Concerns / PM Default Sent Checkbox
« on: July 21, 2020, 09:36:29 PM »
For me, it's a minor and easily forgettable click to check the 'save to sent' box on each PM. My preference is to have it defaulted to checked. I don't know what other's druthers are. If overwhelmingly in favor of changing the default, is that hard?
If no one has that preference, I'll just be more mindful of it.

Suggestions & Concerns / Default YouTube Video Size
« on: July 06, 2020, 09:07:38 PM »
Is there a way to make an embedded YT video larger? The default here is kinda small, 450x230-ish, and I tend to just launch it on YT rather than in the post. It would be better if it were around 960x590 or the like and I could stay resident in the post. Maybe there's some mark-up that will do this. Unsure.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Dem Watch 2020
« on: December 04, 2019, 12:33:53 AM »
Each week we should bet on the next Dem to drop culminating in the foreshadowing of the DNC Nom.

Betting begins, who is the next to drop out? Each cycle is 7 days, starting with today, oddly, Tuesday. Double points for predicting a 2-fer in the week cycle. We are now in week 1. Put your bet in brackets, e.g., [Week 1 - Bennet] Vitriolic reason: Who? Something like that.

Vitriolic reasons why your pick is doomed is very much appreciated and rewarded.

My first pick:

[Week 1 - Booker] Money. Raising nothing, needs to preserve at least a minimal standing as Junior Senator to remain a senator.

I literally stumbled upon this and really haven't had a chance to research its veracity, but thought it would be of interest.

From the website (https://www.onemoreorbit.com/):

"One More Orbit is a multinational attempt to break the world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the earth via both poles, in a Qatar Executive Gulfstream G650ER ultra long-range business jet.
The record is being attempted during the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Apollo 11 moon landing, as a tribute to the past, present, and future of space exploration.
The team will launch the record attempt from, and return for the finish to, Space Florida's Launch and Landing Facility (the former Shuttle Landing Facility) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, from where Apollo 11 launched their historic mission 50 years ago. The mission will start at 09:32 EDT – the same time as Apollo 11.
The speed record will be certified by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) and GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™."

You can apparently watch their flight live:

Didn't know where to put this. Seems like a chat between MCToon and Pete is happening today if anyone is interested.

Pete and I had a nice chat for my Coffee with a Flat Earther series on YouTube.  The video is premiering Thursday, March 21 8:00pm GMT or 3:00pm CST.

You can watch live and participate in the live chat or watch any time later.

Thanks for the cordial chat, Pete.

According to the wiki and elsewhere, FET states that the Sun and Moon are approximately 3000 miles away and 32 miles in diameter.

Why is it that the distances and diameters of the planets have not been calculated at all, let alone with such precision, by FET?

This is kinda cool, regardless of one's earth view.

Virgin Atlantic successfully completed another test flight of their VSS Unity ship today:

Updated key stats from today's test flight:
    Release altitude: 46,500 ft
    Burn time: 42 seconds
    Boost Mach: 2.47
    Apogee: 170,800 ft, 32.3 miles, 52 km
    Re-entry Mach: 1.7

Flat Earth Debate / I'm getting all Meta...
« on: July 25, 2018, 03:40:41 PM »
Is this the Crux of the Biscuit?

From the conclusion of Rowbotham’s ENAG:

'Wherever doubt shall exist as to the. sufficiency of the phenomenal explanations offered, the mind must at once fall back upon the grand reserved proposition that water is horizontal, and, therefore, any want of satisfaction in explaining phenomena must be met by further efforts in that direction, and not by the mentally suicidal process of denouncing a proved foundation."
