Russia occupied the nuclear plant in March, shelling started in August.  Russia and Ukraine accused each other of the shelling.  Turns out it was the Russians shelling the station even though they held it.  Now they have shelled substations supplying the plant with power, cutting it off from external power.  They attacked their own position and tried to blame Ukraine for it.

Russia did not shell the power station that was disinformation.

For clarification. Russia did do this shelling. The original claims of Russia shelling the nuclear plant months ago was disinformation.

This, has clear and obvious motive. Cut power to Ukraine, it makes perfect sense as to why they would do it. I don't think they even tried to deny it.

Yes, the Russians were shelling ZNPP.  Their motive wasn't to cut power.  It was to stoke fear in a nuclear meltdown to cause the West to back off.  A nuclear power plant can't just be shutdown.  The electricity needs to go somewhere and the plant needs a separate power source to keep it from melting down.

But when you shut down the reactor, it isn't generating electricity any more.  You still need electricity to maintain the reactor when the reactor isn't producing electricity.
