He isn't Trump
He will defeat the corone!
He will reunite Americans
I am woke and want equality for all
I'm down with Kamala Harris as VP

I prefer neither approach. The weirdest thing since Biden has been elected has been people rejecting all criticism of him because Trump did other bad things. If you have standards, there's nothing wrong with holding people in your own tribe to them.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

My standards are fine with the White House working with social media platforms to help flap off all the BS.

My standards are not fine with a president ranting and raging and threatening anyone who dares say something that makes him look bad. Even if he provides endless reasons as to why he is so bad lol

Is the White House working with social media companies to tailor and craft a positive spin on anything 'Biden'? I doubt it.

Try not to lose any sleep over it. Though I'm sure Trump threatening journos with jail or whistleblowers with death (because treason) probably did leave people awake at night.

I'm not going to lose any sleep, I can barely stay awake.

It's not a comparison between Trump and Biden, Trump is not the president right now. Biden's administration is violating the constitution. I'm not going to think everything Biden does is great just because Trump was shit. That is some serious TDS, people need to get over it.

Precisely this! People are quick to jump on the opposing team for whataboutisms and end up completely blind to when they are doing it to protect their own. Anyone defending this thing Psaki was saying, I'd ask them to envision a 2024-2028 DJT, DJT Jr, or DeSantis presidency. Do you think they wouldn't follow the same playbook, knowing that the lefties all gave this kind of intervention a pass? Because your team did a lot of bitching when the last guy was trying to get the media to submit to his messaging demands around important public issues.

Is the White House working with social media companies to tailor and craft a positive spin on anything 'Biden'? I doubt it.

Again, read the quotes from Psaki in the article...

Quote
"Within the Surgeon General's Office, we're flagging posts for Facebook that spread disinformation," Psaki said. "We're working with doctors and medical professionals to connect medical experts with people, who are popular with their audiences with accurate information and boost trusted content. So, we're helping get trusted content out there. We also created the COVID Community Corps to get factual information into the hands of local messengers."

Yes. Yes, they are working with social media companies to tailor and craft a positive spin on messaging for a particular social issue. THE WHITE HOUSE is working to help get "tRuStEd CoNtEnT" out to the masses. This is an influence campaign. And just because I agree with the cause in this particular instance, that does not mean I am OK with the method they are employing to promote that cause. There are better ways to do this that don't go against the values our nation was founded upon. And even if we're going to go against those values, it seems pretty tactless to be bragging out it publicly from the press secretary's podium.

Americans are weird. I only WISH the Australian government would do something about misinformation. But as it suits their purposes for the public to be stupid xenophobes or climate change deniers or anti covid vaccines they are happy for the shit to proliferate and dumb the whole country into voting for them yet again

I expect a government to act on behalf of truth and integrity especially when it comes to social cohesion. If that means assisting a private organization which for too long has allowed trolls, bullshit and mis/disinformation to propagate into the mainstream and fluck up social cohesion and have demonstrably negative effects on peoples health (eg antivaxxer BS) and livelihoods (propagation of racism and hate) and even interference in your  so called 'democratic elections' then yeah, good on the government for getting involved and giving a damn

Unfortunately the current Australian government relies on the spread of BS to keep people voting for them. We currently have the party in power that needs stupid people to stay stupid. If we started to propagate truth, integrity and reason into the mainstream and if journalists and talking heads had to follow an ethical and moral conduct code, our current government party would be finished

I would not support a government getting involved in censoring the BS or media having to run articles through the government to censor - and that does not appear to be happening with the White House. I'm pretty sure Facebook can still turn around at any time and tell the White House to go F itself without worrying about any recourse.

Wow, the gubberment helps a social media platform fulfill its civic responsibility. The shock! The horror! This is not what our forefathers envisioned! Democracy is doomed!!!!

What's a socual? And you need to understand the nuance of what I say. Saying we don't have all the information doesn't default a world view to being flat - anyway that's another topic and what I said regardless of your personal opinion is correct. Social media has objectively been a net negatively. Society is not brought together by it but divided more and more. Good quality information is much harder to find - not easier.

Society is just now more exposed than ever. All the assholes are in-touch and all the assholes who don't like each other are too.

What if our government took away your right to express your opinion?

That's quite the overreach from what is actually being supposedly done now. If the White House finds a post I make on Facebook (if I used it) objectionable, they are welcome to flag it like anyone else to bring it to the attention of Facebook to review it

There are plenty of ways people can express their opinion. Facebook/Twitter/instagram aren't the only methods. Personally I think it would be good to if your government shut them all down tbh

Opinions are one thing. And the government isn't going to silence anyone about their favourite team, colour, food, sport etc. But trying to dress up opinion as fact 'vaccines cause autism, the election was rigged, QAnon is all true, etc, well that can all flap off. Freedom of speech isn't and never was free. It's just word play to make people feel warm and fuzzy. People need to be responsible with their speech. You aren't free to say whatever the hell you want. Nor should you be

In your home, go nuts. But to an audience of millions - maybe some things are better left unsaid

You miss the point lol

If I say vaccines cause autism - that's not an opinion

If I say the election was rigged - that's not an opinion

If I say covid is a hoax and encourage people to refuse to wear a mask and go out in affront to the medical advice - that's not an opinion

It's bullshit like this which is having a real net negative to society which is what needs to be removed.

If I say Trump or Biden are pieces of shit - that's an opinion 8)

I don't think opinions should be silenced - never have

No. The White House has the muscle. When some fuck wit used the guise of a friend request to threaten me with violence (and using very foul language in doing so!) on Facebook and I reported it, I got told 'we have reviewed the post and found nothing wrong with it' crap

I'm pretty sure whatever the White House wants, Facebook gets to veto power. Relax

Maybe being in Australia with a government not as retarded when it comes to power over people, has given me a different perspective

I'll let professionals take the lead. For example if medical scientists and doctors the world over say vaccines are safe, effective, don't have microchips and don't cause autism - I'm happy for that information to get a plug while trolling morons with their dumb Bill Gates 5G conspiracy theories have their nonsense deleted

The government aren't experts and even this whole White House working with Facebook or whatever thing that's twisted your undies doesn't reek of them having some veto power over what stays and what doesn't. And there is nothing wrong with having them help prop up the experts to get the messages out there. The Australian governments funds our ABC network but our ABC network remains independent. There are no deals, no favourable reporting of the government, no favours etc. Independent, unbiased and totally neutral. But perhaps coming from Australia where I dont fear my governments going to go full retard mode and lay siege to the populous like the fears in America gives me a different perspective to you.

Now what would be the best course of action is investing in education and in school giving students the abilities and tools needed to think critically. This would have the benefit of a) not having stupid morons promote stupid shit in such large numbers and b) when someone comes across outlandish or bizarre claims, that they dont take it at face value and fact check / do their own research themselves

Sadly though governments anywhere have a vested interest in keeping a base of people naive and gullible - so it's unlikely to happen.
