Although this isn't a comic, it's very similar to many political and religious comics.

Fucking 11/9 deniers.
What happened on the 9th of November?

A bunch of people crossed the Berlin Wall which begun the event known as the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Also, happy Berlin Wall day, folks.

It's also the anniversary of the death penalty being properly outlawed in the UK.

Old, but relevant. Not sure if it's been posted before. Also, accurate.

This picture is actually retarted. That should be militant agnostic, there have been militant atheists for a long time. The Soviet Union was pretty much a militant atheist state.

I believe that your argument might have validity if the Soviet Union was driven by atheistic beliefs.  If you can demonstrate that the Soviet Union's militaristic society had atheistic motives dictating its policies then I'll agree with you, otherwise I would ask you withdraw your assertion that the comic is retarted.

If anything, they derived their ideology from Christianity, considering Jesus was communist as fuck.

Isn't a policy or set of ideals not rooted in religion atheistic by default?

I would say it is agnostic. On the surface this may look like splitting hairs as the line between agnostic and atheist can be nebulous at times. Perhaps I can explain. Atheist is one who generally rejects the idea of a deity while agnostic is one without a deity. When applied to people, it seems to be a trivial difference. However, when applied to national policy, the difference is quite clear. Can you think of many policies that reject the idea of a deity? I can think of a few that some people may argue reject a deity, but what they really do (the ones coming to my mind) is separate the deity from policy. Now, how many national policies can you think of that are simply lacking in a deity?  The vast majority.

The Soviet Unions policies were not driven by a general rejection of the idea of a deity.

Those aren't the dictionary definitions, though. An Atheist is one without belief in a deity or deities, and an Agnostic is one who does not know. You can be an Agnostic Atheist and in fact I think most Atheists are.

And the word "irony" is almost never used correctly by definition.  Quite nebulous indeed.

What about secular? With respect to national policy, that seems more appropriate, although it isn't even relevant to the comic.

The Soviet Union was the first state to have as an ideological objective the elimination of religion[1] and its replacement with atheism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_the_Soviet_Union

Marxism–Leninism has consistently advocated the control, suppression, and eventual elimination of religion. Within about a year of the revolution, the state expropriated all church property, including the churches themselves, and in the period from 1922 to 1926, 28 Russian Orthodox bishops and more than 1,200 priests were killed. Many more were persecuted.[6]

That is not acting without regard to religion. It is eliminating it in the belief there is no god.

Read moar.

@wendy jesus had nothing to do with the sham economic system used to keep the poor desolate and the people in power rich and in control. Also economics has nothing to do with this discussion of religion.

I think it's more eliminating it in favor of mindless hordes of workers than atheism, but you do have a point.

Marx did not create or advocate Marxism-Leninism. In fact, it did not even exist during Marx's lifetime.

I read the article you linked and the reference from the U.S. Library of Congress. At first impulse is wanted to qualify my words or argue on the baisis of a technicality (or perhaps even argue that the comic was only showing modern militant actions -- also a dishonest tactic on my part). However, I could not in good conscience reconcile away the deaths of 1,228 people.  Their persecution seemed to be very clearly motivated by athiesm. So I officially retract my statement and withdraw my query for you to recant on the account that you've found 1,228 people killed from atheistic motives.

In the future I'll endeavor to be less abosute in my challenges and phrase myself more eloquently.

You were correct either way. Marxism-Leninism was a right-wing deviation from mainstream Marxism and was criticized as such by most socialists at the time of its conception. Any "orthodox" Marxist could tell you that, so I'm not sure why Douchebag seems to be taking issue with it.

I had assumed he meant Marxism/Leninism, thereby equating the two, rather than a separate thing.

I don't know why you would assume that, considering he said Marxism-Leninism instead of Marxism/Leninism.

Given the ignorance he displayed before by claiming that the culls in Soviet Russia were a result of Marx-based militant atheism, it wouldn't surprise me.
