I believe my eyes when I watch the sun set below the horizon.

You've seen the sun below the horizon?  ???

Yes. I sure have.

« on: September 07, 2011, 09:01:50 AM »
I'm serious. That image doesn't prove anything.
How?

It's just a bunch of dots signed 'flag', 'astronaut footpath' etc. I could take any picture of the moon and do that. It doesn't mean that those things are actually there.

Yeah. Besides, you can even see the moonshrimp near the LEM.

In this link are some problems of the moon landing missions. Is this guy lying, or is NASA lying?

I don't think we went to the moon... You should check out my youtube channel. I make videos about the Apollo Moon Hoax.

I just watched today's "launch" of Atlantis.

I think it goes to show FES is starting to make a difference. This will be the last hoax for the foreseeable future. Undoubtedly NASA are looking to make the next 'vehicle' more plausible and as yet have not been able to find ways to disguise the objections, we have all had to their current set up. Much like a magician having his tricks revealed, NASA must go away and spend more time on a new act.

Does that mean you will shift your dribble to the USSR now?

Amazing video to see, but if you want the direct facts go to 7:40.

Earth's round shape shown at his best. Undeniable.

Of course now, some blind stubborn FES will desperately say that this is no evidence...

"ooh oooh all i see is a disk hurr durr thus da earth is flat"

I just hope some of them open their eyes.

Enjoy.

People post videos like these everyday in an attempt to enlighten the close-minded flat earthers. You need to seriously Lurk Moar...

Flat Earth General / Re: On the FAQ and gravity
« on: July 07, 2011, 05:42:45 PM »
Quote
Q: Why is it that the Earth does not have a gravitational pull, whereas the stars and celestial bodies do?

A: This argument is a non-sequitur. You might as well ask, "How is it that snakes do not have legs, but dogs and cats do?" Snakes are not dogs or cats. The Earth is not a star or the moon. It does not follow that each must have exactly the properties of the others, and no more.

I have a few problems with this explanation. First, the animals are a bad example, because this question actually has an answer. Dogs and cats have legs because of evolution. Snakes do not, for the same reason. The earth and other celestial bodies do not have genes that dictate their structure. Because these bodies are inanimate, they should all abide to the same fundamental laws of physics. Does that mean FET bends the laws of conventional physics to suit their purposes?

Also, you didn't even answer the question. Essentially, the response was, "they are different because they are different." There was no explanation offered as to why they were different. If you believe in the concept of gravity, it is well known that it is a force exerted on the fabric of spacetime by the mass of an object. What makes the earth so special that it does not exert this force? I am very curious.

My problem with it has always been that some snakes do have legs, but it's kinda irrelevant. If you look too far into any analogy, it'll sound stupid.

Evolution has nothing to do with a flat earth.

If you research using the internet you will find areas of concern including the stomach, intestines, thorax, skin, and eyes. Other side effects would include nausea, anxiety, and indications of a temporary insanity.

It stands to reason that there are other concerns, as well.  When I have time I will conduct additional research.

I've researched using the internet and have found no such areas of concern.  Please provide links.

Probably because they don't exist?? He never cited a source, don't take a sourceless post seriously.

Flat Earth General / Re: Hypocrisy of Rowboatham
« on: July 07, 2011, 02:04:48 PM »
In his waste-of-words Earth Not A Globe (or Bishops Bible for short), snake-oil merchant SB Rowboatham exhibits a huge amount of picking and choosing of evidence. For those who cant be bothered to wade through the pages of this tome, here are some choice examples of his total un-zeteticism.

1. On the rotation of stars around the south celestial pole: page 219, he says some people have observed the stars rotating around a point centred near Sigma Octantis. Because this disagrees with earth as a flat plane, however, he goes on to say these peoples observations are wrong. He then presents snippets from various mariners logs out of context, which imply that southern circumpolar stars were not visible - without including any reference to weather or atmospheric conditions - and says these peoples observations are correct without question and show there are no circumpolar stars.

2. On the continuous daylight at summer within the Antarctic Circle: pages 221-222, Rowboatham states that some people have witnessed continuous daylight in the Antarctic regions. He then says these peoples observations are wrong, and then presents - again out of context and without weather reference - snippets from mariners logs where they say it was too dark to safely sail at certain times. He then holds these accounts up as proof that there is never continuous daylight within the Antarctic Circle.

3. Page 250, he presents an unreferenced letter from an unnamed individual about the discovery of Neptune which claims Newtonian physics is proved wrong because Le Verriers initial calculations and estimates of the planets orbital size, mass and time of orbit were not 100% correct before the planet was visually observed. This shows a fundamental inability to understand how physics works and that something bigger further away will exert the same gravitational attraction as something smaller closer in. Sorry Rowboatham, claiming these things disprove a theory you dont understand is not acceptable.

That just about sums up the main players of the Flat Earth Society.

I imagine a lot of it comes from Samuel Rowbotham. Have you tried lurking more, perchance?

Yeah, I have tried to Lurk MOAR, but the FAQ is retarded. There are several posts about every single thing being wrong on the FAQ. You guys should re-write it.

Hey guys,

I made an account on this forum to prove your theories are right. My cousin is an astronaut and he sent me a pic of him in space with the earth being flat, so you should be proud to be the people who know the truth. I won't post the pic though because of privacy. But best wished to you guys.

Ok, here we go again... Just another lunatic claiming to have first hand photo evidence of a flat earth. In fact, if what you say is true, the flat earth society will even dismiss you as a liar. First of all, the flat earth society believes man has and never will go or gone into space. Just to start. Second, your cousin is either a liar or severely CONFUSED. Any astronaut, taikonaut, or cosmonaut will back up the round earth theory. If your cousin says he can see a flat earth in space, he is either lying straight to you, or messing around with you because he knows you're stupid enough to believe it. Now as for the other flat-earthers claiming that this is a legit post, it's not. Unless you can show us the photograph, you will be dismissed from the forums as a liar to both the Round Earthers and the Flat Earth Society. We have countless images of photographs taken in space, and we are able to share these without "privacy issues." Google Image "Earth from Space".
Your cousin is lying and so are you. Show the picture or be branded a liar.

Welcome to the Flat Earth Society Forums,
Vincent.

haha. Yes, how else would magic bendy light trick us into thinking things are round... and what's this about NASA saying men went into space???? yeah right/

From the 10 seconds I've been on this website, I am coming to the assumption that no one actually believes this.  It's just a place where people can apply shoddy logic and get pissed off.  Am I far off?

No. You're actually perfectly right. I personally think even the hardcore guys like Crustinator and Tom Bishop are just trolling...

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Some Inconsistencies With FET - Please Help
« on: July 07, 2011, 03:10:56 AM »
The following "problem" has been raised with Problem 1) regarding the light from the FE Sun. I'll dispel it here.

I own a flashlight.  It does not illuminate my entire house at once.  I have often worked as a spotlight operator.  The spotlight does not illuminate the whole stage at once - that's the point of using it.

And don't forget, the inverse square law does not apply to light beams that have been focused via a reflector and/or a lens.  This is a point it seems hard for many people to understand, but it's one of the basic reasons to use a reflector or lens.

You are correct that a flashlight does not illuminate the entire house.
But try this, turn on your flashlight and set it down on the table. Now, step a few feet back and look at it from an angle of almost 90 degrees (even 60 deg. would be good) measured from the direction that the light exits. You will still be able to see the light shining inside the head of the flashlight - even though the flashlight is only directly illuminating the area in front of it.

Everyone please feel free to post pictures of this. Like so:

See how the illumination is visible even at an extreme angle, which is no where within the scope of direct illumination?

Since the Sun works much similar to this mechanism in the FE model, then this side-ways illumination should be visible everywhere on the FE, not just on the small fraction that the light is illuminating directly.
(This is what is shown in the diagrams above in Problem 1).)

The same would apply to your average lighthouse, except that the lighthouse uses elaborate optics to focus the light, and there is a massive concrete structure surrounding it.

And it is obvious that neither of these - especially the elaborate focusing mechanism - are observed on the Sun. Even with a telescope and a solar filter, which I have used to look at the Sun.

Since a spotlight will dispel light in nearly every direction, I have also always wondered this. Tom and friends need to change the LURK MOAR section.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: Disprove RET
« on: July 07, 2011, 03:04:15 AM »
Since we round earthers tend to disprove many of flat earthen theory i would like to give them a chance to disprove RET. Please post evidence that the earth cannot be round for (insert reason here). Mind you these reasons must be able to be fact checked and not some magic equation you wrote down while watching opera.

Sure.

1) Look out your window

2) The Bedford Level Experiment.

1) well that's faulty logic. if you lived on top of a mountain and looked outside your window, you'd think that the world descends in all directions. it's the bigger picture that's important. and the bigger picture shows it's rounded.

2) that experiment's error is well known to be due to refraction within the atmosphere. is this finding incorrect? if so, how?

He's trolling you, bro. He can't disprove RET because he's a round earther..
