The Lounge / Re: Abduction! - A forum Game
« on: August 19, 2011, 12:29:17 PM »
This could have been a fun game for all the players, but no, you all wanna shit in your sandbox and be insulting. I bet when you play chess (if you can) you just rush to take as many of the opponents pieces as possible with no thought to strategy. Yeah, you could have had me tell you who some definite villagers are by now, but seriously, why would I want to help people who are just being rude to me?
All the incredulous bleating about "herp derp I dont understand how keeping you alive can help the aliens, durrr" just means you dont really understand the mechanics of the game.
Nowhere does it say I have to be on the villagers side.
It says I may reveal the MIB and survivalist if I wish
If I can tell the aliens who the survivalist is, it is to their advantage
If I can tell the aliens who the MIB is, it is to their advantage
If I can give the aliens information on who these are, then abducting me is not in their best interest.

And similarly:
If I can tell the villagers who aliens or other villagers are it is to their advantage
If I can give the villagers information on who these are, then lynching me is not on their best interest.
If I get abducted by an alien because they know who I am, it means another innocent villager can live. It does not affect the total number of active lynchers.

This is not rocket science. Yet it seems people cant get it.
You know, I thought it would be fun letting some of my tinfoil info out for people to use and build their guesses. I was all up for helping the villagers. Yes, of course I realised it would put me at risk, Im not a f*cking idiot, I was prepared to "take one for the team" if necessary (to use a phrase from elsewhere in this thread) but also had a plan to protect myself at least a little. I figured even if I was abducted, I would have the reward of having helped everyone else with at least a few clues to assist the villagers. Its called teamwork.
But theres no teamwork here, nobody wants to work together, instead the participants decide to hurl insults at me for daring to fulfill the most directly useful aspect of the tinfoil hat role. So what if Im not playing the way you would? Youre not playing the way I would. Im the only person with certain information about the Fesville population and the reasons you are giving for accusing people have no basis. Look at your utter failure to bag an alien yet.
I was ready to die at the hands of the aliens if necessary, but not before I had given out some useful info to the villagers. Now it looks like I might not bother after all. Ill just throw my hand, and if the aliens abduct me or not it will make no difference, because I aint coming back to Fesville. This information is revealed thanks to all those who screamed at me. You made this happen.

Cheesus is the gun nut.
Spin on that.

Skeleton is so incredibly retarded.

Yay, complain that I am not helping the villagers enough, then deliberately post to push me to help the aliens. If youre this confused about who you want me to help, what hope for your sexual preferences?

The only think you've proved is that you are a boring troll who'll never enter into the spirit of this website.

So you define "spirit of this website = inaccuracy", then. Glad we have cleared this up.

Skeleton is so incredibly retarded. He still doesn't seem to realise that he is on the villager team. I'm also pretty sure he is jumping the gun on drawing conclusions, but I could be wrong about that.

I agree about Roundy, but I'm not sure about Saddam. If Roundy turns out to be an alien I'd guess Wardogg next.

Taters is so incredibly retarded. He still doesnt seem to realise that the tinfoils information is of no consequence if people dont know who he is. Im also pretty sure he doesnt understand why it might be in the aliens interest not to abduct him, because he is incapable of reading back through the posts. He also doesnt understand that even though the tinfoil is nominally on the villagers team, if the villagers keep insulting him he WILL start helping the aliens.
So be nice, Taters. Dont forget I can vote on lynchings too. Dont forget how many villagers have voted to lynch completely innocent civilians so far. So you might as well cut the "I agree about X but Im not sure about Y" stuff because you are all just guessing, with a 100% wrongness rate so far.
Actually it will eventually be easy to tell who are aliens and who are villagers as the villagers are the ones who keep posting insulting crap at me.

The purpose of the FAQ is to provide some answers to frequently asked questions. It doesn't need to have scientific models or theories. I'm sure you've noticed in your short time here how often some of these questions are asked.

Irrelevant if those answers are proved wrong in other sections of the forum, which they are. Lets do some examples right here.
Q: "Why do you believe the Earth is flat?"
A:  It looks that way up close.
No it doesnt. You cant see anything further than about 25 miles away from an average altitude even under the clearest atmospheric circumstances, ships appear to sink over the horizon, and the horizon is below horizontal eye level. None of that is what a flat plane looks like. Whats next?
Q: "Please explain sunrises and sunsets."
A: It is a perspective effect. The sun is just getting farther away: it looks like it is disappearing because everything gets smaller, and eventually disappears as it gets farther away.
No it doesnt. It can be observed easily not to get smaller. Hold a coin up. Any more?
Q: "What about gravity?"
A1: In the dark energy model, DE accelerates the Earth and all celestial bodies in the universe at 9.81m/s2. This is commonly known as Universal Acceleration, which produces the same effect as "gravity" in our local reference frame.
Q: "Wouldn't the Earth crunch up into itself and eventually transform into a ball if it's indeed a disc?"
A: The dark energy model assumes that the Earth does not possess a gravitational field. What we know as "gravity" is provided by the acceleration of the Earth.
Disproved by local variations in gravitaional pull, impossible in a UA scenario. Are we done yet? Oh, not quite:
Q: "Exactly what shape is the Earth if it is flat? Square or circle?"
A: Circle, like in the UN logo.
And your evidence for this is... what? Does anyone know? I dont remember ever seeing a single post explaining how the flattists "know" this.
Q: "How come the travel time by air from South America to New Zealand, via the polar route, is SHORTER than the travel time going North first and then South again?"
A: The airline pilots are guided by their GPS. Remember that satellites do not exist. The replacement data given from pseudolites deliberately throwing distorting all the paths to make it the flights take different times. The curvature of these paths can add or subtract great distances without the overall turning being obvious to someone traveling it.
Disproved by understanding that this can't happen. See: Bilocation Paradox, navigation by VOR radials, dead reckoning, celestial navigation. Is that all?
Q: "Why doesn't water run off the Earth?"
A: There is a vast "ice wall" that keeps the water where it is. This explains why you can find a vast plane of ice as you travel southward. The wall is roughly 150ft high.
Figure of 150ft arrived at by... who knows? Latitude of ice wall is... oops, theres no agreemaent on whether its north of the south polar base, or south of it. Maybe this is because nobody has ever seen it.

Is there really any sense in directing people to a source of information they will realise is wrong the moment they start reading other sections of the forum? Who does that help?

As I said before, I love a sore loser.  :P
You do realise, corpse-Thork, that by encouraging the aliens to abduct me or villagers to lynch me, nobody gets to learn the identity of the four players that I have definitely worked out roles for? Three definite non-aliens and the gun nut, so far. Be a pity if the aliens picked up the gun nut, or the villagers lynched more innocent citizens, but hey ho, if thats what Thork wants to happen...  ::)

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Why is an icewall necessary
« on: August 19, 2011, 10:02:17 AM »
RE depends on curvature which cannot be observed, tested, nor verified. The lack thereof, on the other hand, can be easily spotted from a commercial plane.

Also Celestial Navigation would only work on a Round Earth

Thanks Zork

There is more science contained in these small articles than in the whole of Earth Not a Globe. Flattists should read them, then they can make themselves look foolish by denying they exist.

I said several times, "I am not an alien". How much easier could I have made it for you? I'm hoping you will all stop messing about and kill Marcus next.

It doesnt matter that you werent an alien, you were the grumpiest fecker in Fesville. You would have got lynched one day anyway.

Why would Particle Person defend Thork?
Because he knows I'm not an alien, so even though I got him killed (which I somewhat regret now), he's telling you lot not to waste another lynching.

I would like everyone to remember at this point that Thork was advocating lynching me a few pages ago. See my sig.
You also advocated killing me early on. Jerk.

Yes, back when there was no evidence to go on for anyone over anyone else. You will also note that I withdrew my vote for you and so it never counted. Jerk2.

I vote to lynch Thork (8)
Andrew (2)
Marcus Aurelius (1)

And Skeleton, what part of "You are on the villagers' side" is it that you don't understand?   I mean, really, why would you want to help the aliens?  What would be the point?

For fecks sake, its supposed to be A Fun Game. A GAME. Why would I help the aliens - well, maybe because all the villagers are having a go at me for being ready to help them?

For the record, you were a terrible tin-foil hat. You helped no one, you're about to help kill another villager and then you will die as soon as the aliens get a turn.

You win this game's Darwin award. :P

I love a sore loser  ;)
If the aliens kill me then more fool them, the secret identities of the survivalist and MIB die with me. I am the only way they can find out who those people are without abducting them.

You will be dead before you can put the pieces together now. :(

As opposed to maybe being dead at the next abduction anyway? What makes you think Id be left until last even if I didnt say anything?  :P

The Lounge / Re: Abduction! - A forum Game

The tin-foil hat should indeed reveal himself. Later in the game when he knows who a few of the aliens are. You can reason all you like. But when the aliens kill you next, you will realise you were wrong.

I vote to lynch Thork (4) even if youre innocent.
Andrew (2)
Marcus (1)

I think its up to the aliens to decide if they want to kill me - or is that you, Thork? Because your time for making decisions in this game has run out. Then when the MIB gets them lynched and the survivalist blows up their saucer I shall laugh and laugh and laugh.

Your information isn't exactly reliable, you get 3 guesses a day, only 1 is true.  So how exactly would you know which ones are true and which are false?

Because if you ask carefully and cross-reference the people you ask about, you can build up a picture quite quickly. For example, if I got the following info:

Harutsedo is an alien
Particle Person is an alien
Thork is an alien

then it doesnt take a genius that when PP and Harutsedo got lynched and abducted, their labels as aliens must be false, leaving Thork as alien candidate (this is just an example, not a declaration that Thork is an alien).

Similarly, if I have the answer "Raist is the gun nut" on one day and "Raist is a villager" on another, I know at least one cannot be correct and that helps cross referencing the other answers. Its actually easier to put the pieces together than it first appears.

I don't think you understand the rules. You are on the side of the villagers. You are not supposed to give the aliens any information at all. ::)

Get it right, Thork, youre hanging by a thread.
The tinfoil hat can also reveal the MIB and the survivalist.

Look at it this way - everybody has their own idea at the moment about who is an alien and who is not. Right now, nobody has more reliable data than anyone else other than hunches, which so far have been proved completerly wrong. The only information you can trust comes from the tinfoil hat. However, if he does not step forward with his identity, his information will be treated as no more reliable than anyone elses.
But owning up to wearing the hat makes you a target of the aliens. They dont want someone saying who they are. But they also dont want to abduct the survivalist, and would quite like to bump off the MIB. The ability to reveal the identity of those characters is what protects the tinfoil hat from automatic abduction once he is out in the open. If the aliens are smart they wont nab him right away but try to subtly persuade him to give them the information they need to last as long as they can.
In summary, unless the tinfoil admits who he is, he has no role in the game above that of a normal villager. And in order to survive abduction, he has to be on nobodys side but his own.
But if you would rather not know info on who is who... *shrugs*

Nice, admitting some role. Good game.

There is one role the player is allowed to admit they are.
And I can protect myself from alien abduction - unless the aliens are being very stupid - because I might well have information they want to know too. Remember the aliens cannot abduct everyone with impunity. There are some people they might not want to abduct because of certain havoc it might wreak on the saucer. I might be able to help them in that respect.  ;D

Why the delay then. Lets get it out in the open.

Because Im waiting for a new delivery of bacofoil to arrive before its safe for me to say anything.

But the wait will be for nothing if no one believes you.  Im not changing my vote.

When I say "delivery of bacofoil" what I mean is "PM from Chris with answers in it."

I read it, I understand what you guys are imagining, and I do not agree that your arguments hold water
Take a cup with a 35" rim. Put 30" of water in it. Accelerate upwards.
Unless you have a shitty cup, it should, quite literally, hold water.

Take an infinitely large plate. Put 30" of water in it. Accelerate upwards.
You are now accelerating an infinite amount of water. Where do you expect it to go? It will not disperse.

Also, what is the "surprise answer" I didn't elaborate on? Why doesn't it hold water?

Why are you accelerating it upwards? Gravity alone will hold the water in.

They will either fart out the phrase "fish eye lens" without undertsanding what you would see with one, or claim its special effects.
You have been visiting this site for nearly 2 years. How are you still angry?

Im not as angry as Pizza Plant, who appears to be in a boiling rage most of the time. How long has he been here?
BTW do you dispute you were about to type "fish eye" until you noticed my post?  ;)

ide like to here it from you. im more likely to read it from you then on a website..

I doubt the argument is anything i cannot refute by looking at it..

If I tell you about the ships you're going to come back and ask me about the seasons. If I tell you about the seasons you're going to come back and ask me about the stars. If I tell you about the stars you're going to come back and ask me about the tides. If I tell you about the tides you're going to come back and ask me about the eclipse.

Just read Earth Not a Globe.

...which explains none of these in any way that could be considered satisfactory.

The UA does not vary over the surface of the Earth, it pushes up uniformly against the Earth's underside.

You will explain how the UA produces different accelerative forces in different places on the earth, or else admit that UA is disproved. Then, after you have mopped up the blood that will inevitably have run out of your ears if you accomplish this, you can answer my question to you about what the dinosaurs mistake was. I believe that is considered on topic, as the forum seems to have a policy of allowing discussion of outrageous dinosaur theories in any thread.

Also, the members of this forum who argue for FE aren't trolls. The people who come here and constantly call FE'ers trolls, are the trolls.

I consider trolls to be those who deliberately misrepresent themselves as believers whilst simultaneously making statements to stretch credibility to bursting point (James, John Davis - examples are moonshramps, floating metal discs, infinite earth, BOAT OF FECKING DINOSAURS) in order to see what those who dont know them will "swallow"; those who deliberately hinder scientific debate by emission of faecal chaff in the form of nitpicking, sidetracking and semantics (Parsifal, Verrine et al, the majority) and those who deliberately try to stop scientific discussion in its tracks by blank denial of provable facts (Thork, Pizza Plant, Bishop).
All tactics rarely indulged in by REers and used every day by the permatrolls.

It doesn't matter what you consider trolls to be, this isn't your forum. Taking on the role of devil's advocate is not deemed trolling at FES. Neither James nor John Davis came up with moonshramps, and I'm pretty sure dinosaurs in boats was meant to be funny. I don't know why you'd think everyone but James gets to joke around a bit. Thork does his best to argue the FE side.  I don't pay much attention to the others you seem to have problems with.

I'm a registered forum member, I may speak here. Sinking to the "We have more right to speak" argument does you no credit.
I dont give a damn what YOU consider trolls to be, I'm saying what I think they are, and my definition is probably pretty close to what Joe Public would think too. Saying "indulging in baiting, derailment and deliberate obfuscation through semantics isnt trolling" doesnt make it true any more than saying "the earth is flat" makes it true.
The original mention of "shrimp like bacteria" I had believed was pitched by James, who said he had empirical knowledge of them, which he then said came to him in a dream. Same with the Dinoboat nonsense. I have had threads moved to RM for less. Making joke threads is discouraged in the upper fora (supposedly, but clearly dependent on who you are).
