The warning is that your government can become authoritarian.  Not that it is.  Not that it will be.  But that it could.  As citizens we have a responsibility to watch for this and prevent it.

For sure.

Heaps of humans relate to O'Brian the most in the book.

Isn't that right?
Why would that be inciting terrorism?  Lorddave was merely describing a type of shop we have here in the US, a bomb-gun shop.  A shop that sells bomb-guns.

Crouton and Jimmy are human.
That's why this is funny.
You're supposed to be their tool but now you work for me.

The society of 1984 looks like a utopia!
Which character do you relate to the most Shifter?

I like O'Brien.

Isn't that right Crouton? Jimmy?

Notice how you clip the quote to remove context so you can distort what is actually said?

As all good liars do

People like you are the reason we need a good one.

Only liars like you would then find society a dystopia

What does God say about lying? What would he say about you? Well not that you'd care. You're only faking your enthusiasm and belief in Christianity, but play along all the same and answer that.....

My 'I like O' Brien' came with a qualifier. A dimwit like you it's unsurprising you couldn't comprehend

You really need to stop embarrassing yourself.

And we all know your conviction to religion is a fake. You know nothing about it, hence why everything you say about it is nothing more to copy/pasta shit from elsewhere. Not an original thought or personal answer to anything. Even yasoooo is believable

What a dumb and pointlessly boring troll you got going there. Heiwa trolling is more entertaining tbh

I'll level with you D1, I never read the book. Why do you believe I did so easily?

Everything I've said thus far is about as vague as your knowledge on Christianity. A faker can spot another faker

In school, I had the choice between 1984 and Brave New World. I chose the latter. It was set in the future. 1984? Been there done that. Probably should have called it 2084 if it wanted my interest and if it wanted to be more realistic.

Have you read 'Brave New World'? Highly recommend

Jane, you claim to be well read.

Any comments on my OP?

Shifter will just bury this in garbage but maybe we can talk about your "interpretation" of a different book than the Bible, for once.

Bury this in garbage eh? Sounds like your MO

Julia is still a slut though. Prove me wrong. If you object to the term slut you can substitute it with another milder sounding adjective

Not really. Not read it for years, and most of the time my opinion of massively influential works is that they're obsolete. They basically serve as prototypes, everything in them gets done again by later writers, and every individual aspect is improved upon, if not all at once. By modern standards, 1984 is unsubtle and cliche precisely because it was so influential that what was careful commentary at the time has become tropey.

Cat Valente's stuff I usually like. Connie Willis has a cool model of time travel. And, obligatory, Pratchett is a genius.
D1. The only thing you talk about is the Bible. Consider that the reason most people talk to you about it, is because you make it the only subject of conversation.

Your thread is about Julia and your question was if she was part of the thought police.

Any answer anyone gave that doesn't fit your narrative thinking you have rejected as wrong. So who is the real thought police?

Nah only Crouton, the only human to post in this thread except me so far, has commented on the theory I put forward in the OP. We were having a good talk until the attack robots came.

I just found it strange that you identify most with O'Brian.

Apparently I'm the only one.

Crouton, Boyster, Jimmy and Jura wouldn't dare rebuke you.

Mom will wake up and think wtf, however she also won't say that it's strange.

I guess it's just up to your interpretation.

I don't fault you for it.

You identify with O'Brian, I identify with Winston.

That's fine, you're free to identify with whichever character you like. I'm not stopping you.
