And nowhere did I say let Russia annex Ukraine, what I’m saying is it shouldn’t have got there and if it did was it all Putin?

Take the Chinese in the pacific and their Island building, in the west this is largely reported as China getting stronger, more beligerent and therefore a danger that needs to be stopped.

But since World War II, the US has pretty much rejected every Chinese effort to lower tensions, it (China) wanted trade, it was weak and it had internal problems, instead if you look at US bases around the world, 800 in 70 countries, the US ringed the USSR and PDRC with naval and missile facilities, China the aggressive one we have to worry about, has one in Djiboutti.

Military spending, the US spends more than the next eight countries (5 of which are her allies) combined and nearly 3 times that of China, but the horror of them putting an airstrip in the Spratly’s led to Western Navies all setting off for the south China sea to show strength.

Am I a Chinese fan, no way, they are demonstrably an autocratic dictatorship, would they still be if the west/US had engaged rather than isolated them, who knows? Why would we do that, well the US had the highest amount of home grown terror attacks after the fall of the Berlin wall, if you don’t have an enemy to scare your populace when they have limited democracy and falling wages they look to change that, foreign wars and bogymen circumvent that to some extent.

I dont believe you are calling for the annexation of Ukraine. I believe disputeone is calling for that. Naive of the consequences that would follow

Putin still lives in the mindset of the USSR with America as a cold war enemy. The thing is, Ukraine if it joined NATO was no 'security threat' to Russia, at least as far as security goes. The only threat would be to Putins ego or if he (now confirmed) had territorial expansion ambitions.

And frankly Putin can share the vast portion of the blame for the destablisation and war. Because Putin still operates like it's the cold war and longs for the days a return to the USSR he has always been an antagonist prick rather than a partner. He has zero care to be on friendly terms with the west. He probably sees such friendships as a weakness.

Whether we like it or not America is currently #1 in terms of global power. And America has done a lot of atrocious things to get it. Both Russia and China want to take that mantle and they aren't afraid to stomp on a lot of people to get there. It is a shame none of them can work together as partners for the good of humanity. One thing every country leader needs to understand in dealing with each other is learning how to compromise

I'd be willing to bet before the invasion there could have been a workable compromise that could have been acceptable to all parties that might have appeased Russia - at least in the short term. Short term enough that the cold war mindset in these tired old men running the Kremlin would die and younger more progressive leaders take over. (well that would be the hope!)

I hate fucking wars. Think about how much death and destruction we did to Japan (and they did to us) in WW2. Now look how friendly we can get along. And Japan is all the stronger for being a world partner than a world antagonist. Russia doesn't have to be an antagonistic prick. They could have chosen a path of friendship

I think he's pretty talented with impersonations, personally.

Blackrock only wants what's best for everyone. That's the basic gist.

We're now appealing to Russel Brand for reasoned interpretations of the world around us? Oh my. Any port in a storm, I guess.

I wish comedians were more like Carlin and deftly wove their observations and concerns into actual comedy instead of this trend to get yerself a podcast so you can just un-funnily rant and rave about whatever to anyone who will listen. So boring, trite, and uninspired.

Stewart was sort of a hybrid. At least from a Daily Show perspective, not sure about now. Point being, it was all funny, parody, satire, but still made a point. Stewart would always say, "I'm a comedian, not a journalist." That was the Carlin Schtick, Lenny Bruce, etc. The Jimmy Dore/Russell Brand thing is just boring, self-serving, and most importantly, unfunny. They take themselves way too seriously. Which is basically anathema to comedy.

The Stewart era Daily Show was a masterclass in if you're going to lean into commentary, at least make it scathingly hilarious and smart.

Ooo, yeah, forgot about Franken, kind of his own version of things. But always brilliantly funny.

So apparently the UK has decided to send some Challenger 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine.  It’ll probably be a pathetic number like 10 or something that won’t shift the dial at all, unless other countries do the same.

Could it make a difference?  How will Russia respond?

Is Ukraine activating our Love of War bug?

We all love war. It’s the epitome of what we class as drama. The circuses of Plato’s days.

Blood Meridian - The Judge on War ("War is God") - Cormac McCarthy - YouTube

Love is shown by works and deeds.

The whole world is now showing our love of war to Ukraine, via the gifts of, “killing forces”, of various types.

The Western love of Liberty and a secular public space is what is creating the hate that Russia is expressing on Ukraine/West.

If Liberty is to grow, it’s love must be offended enough to create the hate required to push the West to war.

It has been pushed enough, so woe to poor Russians and their unwise leader, Putin, as the West shows the unifying power of the love the West has, --- for the freedom to live under liberty and rule of law.

The West will ultimately thank Putin for reactivating our love of war and the unifying potentials it offers the enemy.

Situations like this remind why I rely on more than just regular news outlets to follow complicated topics. They really don't quite get what's happening here.

Up until this point the west has been supplying Ukraine with the intention of not losing. This marks a shift to supplying Ukraine to actually win.

This spring will be very interesting and maybe a little terrifying.

100ish tanks is not a winning number, guaranteed to just keep things ticking over, give a moral boost maybe to the Ukrainians, who now have to learn how to use them and be able to get the fuel and spare parts and maybe get to use them later this year, give the Russians reason for conscripting more unfortunate nobodies to add to the grind and the body count, and “the war machine keeps turning.”

A subtle but important one. Nearly everything up until now that we've been supplying has been great at preventing Russia from advancing but not so useful at taking back territory.

One interpretation of that is we're trying not to escalate into ww3. A more cynical interpretation is that maybe we wanted the war to end as fast as possible even if it meant a divided Ukraine. Under these interpretations any kind of peace is a success. Even if that means Ukraine losing 1/5 of its land.

Tanks though, those are meant to take territory. This tells me that from our perspective a divided Ukraine would be considered a failure of our foreign policy.

2battalions of tanks is formidable
They support exposed tropps and can level a city.

However
What is russias air power?
