Here is the situation in India:

https://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-covid19-37-vaccinated-doctors-from-delhis-sir-ganga-ram-hospital-test-positive-2885479

Vaccines cannot protect against the new triple mutant variant B.1.617 which is evading vaccine protection.

The number of cases has increased at the same rate, everywhere at once in India.

Obviously, the principal mode of transmission of the pandemic cannot be person to person. Everywhere at once = an atmospheric source of the pathogenic agent.

More than half of the population in India has latent TB. The brutal vaccination program has awakened these latent mycobacterium in the vaccinated individuals.

Here is the lunacy: India is vaccinating its people against the original strain, the Wuhan variant, which has disappeared as long ago as March 2020. Yet, the new powerful strain is B.1.617 which cannot be countered by the vaccines currently used against covid-19.

A covid infected person from India was able to infect someone in Australia upon their return. There is clearly person to person transmission. Australia overall has near zero cases barring the travelers from overseas coming back home. If this were atmospheric than Australia despite all its efforts would not be in a 'covid free' position. We'd look like India too

India relaxed too early. And given their population density, plentiful poverty, religious ceremonies etc, this things spread all over very fast. I would be India has had covid spread for a long time flying under the radar because of a lack of testing. We notice and test now because they have reached a breaking point

There is no doubt to the seriousness of covid and that looking at large numbers, young people aren't guaranteed to be safe from damage or death.

Apparently India's own vaccine is effective against their variant

Your own charts show this is not the case.  And

Wow, "brutal" vaccinations now?  They stabbing people in the eye with the needle?  The fact is India has vaccinated <10% of the population.  Whereas the UK is 51% and Israel is at 60%.  Both countries have the spread now under control.

Give it up sando.

Given India's population density, person to person transmission can be quite significant, even as a secondary mode.

Vaccines cannot protect against the new triple mutant variant B.1.617 which is evading vaccine protection.

Will the vaccines still work against B.1.617?
Several studies have linked the two key mutations in B.1.617 with an increased ability for the virus to evade the immune system. So, most likely, COVD-19 vaccines will still work against B1.617, but they could be slightly less effective, Cambridge University's Ravi Gupta said on Twitter: "Likely vaccines will protect against severe illness and death but not against infection in those [people] with poorer immune responses."

There's a lot of blame that can be put on Modi I'm sure.  But there's some blame on our side of things also.

As soon as a vaccine was proven safe and effective the government should have forced them to sell the patent and then given it or loaned it out for free.  India has a massive drug manufacturing capacity and a move like that would have probably avoided this catastrophe.

FYI India has big drug manufacturing because their laws are different. They can make patented drugs if they make them different.

Yeah, I think Roy detests Modi for the ethnic hatred he is brewing and the divisions he is creating.  But their almost entire lack of health system is a long term issue.  That stuff about building a $466m statue in a region with no hospital is just obscene though.

It does mention that

Quote
Anyway, what about the vaccines? Surely they’ll save us? Isn’t India a vaccine powerhouse? In fact, the Indian government is entirely dependent on two manufacturers, the Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech. Both are being allowed to roll out two of the most expensive vaccines in the world, to the poorest people in the world. This week they announced that they will sell to private hospitals at a slightly elevated price, and to state governments at a somewhat lower price. Back-of-the-envelope calculations show the vaccine companies are likely to make obscene profits.
Not so good.

Part of the issue here is that Modi gloated at the West saying how they had it completely under control, unlike the West.  I've got an Indian friend who say people back home had this smug "It's just rich white man's disease" attitude.

That seems extremely unlikely and is never the case anywhere else.

There is no way 50% of the population have it at exactly the same time, it just doesn't work like that.

for those countries with high per capita vaccines, is there a dip or a rise in new cases (based on the 2week case vs 1month hospitalization lags)?
i haven't seen a one stop shop chart.
just curious how it's working out against the variants where vax'ing limits qty to mutate.

No rise in the UK, but we were well into the second lockdown, so it's really hard to tell.  I expect it will take quite a while to extract this sort of thing from the data reliably.

“There are drugs that have been repurposed and used effectively to treat Covid-19,” he said in a March statement.

“We advise that a COVID-19 vaccine is unnecessary and should not be given. We appeal to all the people of Kenya to avoid taking it.”

Well our morally bankrupt and racist Prime Minister have decided to ban any Aussies who are currently in India from coming home. He's getting attacked from all his supporters too.

Funny how we specifically banned China and now India but we never banned America or the UK or other countries during their Heights if uncontrolled outbreaks

The ban on Aussies returning home is nothing short of human rights abuse, unconstitutional and dictatorship style. As well as racist given this never happened with America which was objectively worse at its height

Fuck Scott Morrison. Fat, fugly, racist, morally bankrupt, dictator POS

Even told it would lead to Australians needlessly dying, he couldn't care less.

I don't know.  It kind of seems like it might be a prudent move.  I wouldn't have argued if America was banned during the worst of our outbreaks.

Additionally Australia doesn't seem like it's in a great position to handle an outbreak, sort of a perverse side effect of controlling the outbreak as well as they have so far.  There's very little resistance to covid from either already having it or getting the vaccine.

Australia should have just redirected their citizens in India to America.  We're close to herd immunity through a combination of a totally incompetent government and having enough money to buy all the vaccines.
