I had no idea he was in that category of billionaire:

Wow, neither did I.

Yep. Here's how bad it is with Bloomberg. My 5 year old son is asking who Bloomberg is and why he's running for president.

I think Bloomberg may have the toddler vote locked down.

Well my 5 month old is very indifferent to Bloomberg, so it seems he has formed a very niche following.

Perhaps with all his money he forgot that he should focus on a market legally able to vote?

Least we learned something surprising yet not...you actually can't buy an election (at least from the populous)... Being a silver tongued lying bullshitter is and always has been number one for being a politician no matter your background.

I wouldn't count Bloomberg out yet.

https://www.270towin.com/2020-election-calendar/

These first few states have colored people's perception of the race a little.  There's several states where he's favored to win.  There's also a good number of states where Biden is going to dominate as it stands.

Bloomberg's strategy was to start with Super Tuesday.  The shit he's been doing behind the scenes is kind of interesting.  He's buying up any available campaign staff.  He's doubling their salary and guaranteeing that they get paid whether or not he stays in the race and is offering them a bonus if he wins.  There's also reports that he's hired superdelegates.

One thing about our system that I've always wondered is what if you built a campaign around just the electoral college.  That's only 538 people you'd have to focus on instead of 300 million.  You need 270 to win.  If you had a net worth of 70 billion then you can offer each of them 100 million without breaking a sweat.  I'm not even sure if that breaks any laws.  The Constitution doesn't forbid it.  Some states have laws that will fine you $1000.  At which point you'd still have $999,999,000 left over.

How do Pete's delegates get divvied up?

I wondered about that too.

https://people.howstuffworks.com/primary2.htm

This doesn't seem to be super clear but it looks like they become converted to superdelegates.  There's also a possible that he can sort of donate them to the candidate of his choice.

Interesting. This super delegate business seems to sort of be a recurring problem/issue. It's almost like having a mini-electoral college inside the nominee 'general election'. They seem extremely powerful. Perhaps overly so.

We'll know for sure if Pete endorses Biden. If so, he can slide his 26 committed delegates over to Joe.

I'm joking obviously.

At this point it's a race between Biden and Bernie.  Maybe Bloomberg depending on how much money he wants to burn.  Klobuchar will probably win her home state and that's it.  No one else is projected to win any delegates.

Yeah, I agree, this is gonna be Biden vs Sanders with the DNC pushing all the super delegates to Biden so he can win.

Tho if Trump and Biden paints it as "Obama 2.0" then he could win.

The first time Jerkface made the comment that she was 'one to watch' you absolutely flew off your nut. Even if she is going to lose, she is still in the race while others that seemingly were doing much better than her have dropped out.

Is she remaining in the race for vanity? Is she only existing now as a 'spoiler'? What is it about her that still has people come out to rallies and voting for her? She will drop out eventually - which old white man will she lend her support to? lol

While its probably safe to write her off as the next President of America, I see no reason why anyone who is this far in the race should be shrugged off and not worth any time

Hardly anyone is still voting for her anyways outside of her home state. She had no chance from the get go in a field so crowded by much more formidable opponents. I didn't fly off my nut, JerkFace kept making posts about all the things that are wrong with the other candidates and which would definitely prevent them from doing well in the long run and would help Klobuchar come out on top, I told him that's never going to happen, but he was in denial about it and for whatever reason started celebrating when she came out 5th in Iowa and pretended it means she is doing well. At that point it was way too funny to not make fun of him for it.

There is actually.  It's called a brokered or contested convention.  If no one gets a majority of the delegates then a second round of voting begins in the convention where the "superdelegates" can vote.  These are establishment democrats that are not bound to the will of the voters.  In theory they can just give the nomination to Biden even though he lost.

In practice though this would not only cause the democrats to lose this election but probably annihilate the party in the process.  We'll see just how much they dislike Sanders.

Oh and by the way.  Sticking it out to the bitter end is sort of a white lie that everyone running tells their supporters.  You can see why though.  It doesn't instill a lot of confidence to talk about quitting.

The superdelegates are one of the things the Sanders camp got screwed on last election. I can only imagine what would happen if Sanders went in the clear front runner and the superdelegates gave the nomination to Biden. We could actually see a new political party form, giving permanent control of everything to Republicans for the foreseeable future.
