I love 4chan but the fediverse is a bit much for me. It allows a lot of content that isn't allowed on the chans. I suppose it just depends on the groups you join.

I guess I've only seen the worst screenshots from it. You could say a similar thing about discord because the platform is similar.

Well I personally love the fediverse, but I don't think it will replace Twitter. It is too confusing for most people to get their heads around. Plus, the very worst thing about the fedi is not knowing which instance to join, or even what instances exist and have open registration. Most people do not have the skill to create their own node
Sounds like early days internet, before the corps took over.  Which I guess is the appeal.

Presumably someone could build a user interface over that lot and make it workable?

ooh, what's that? I mean, if people like it then surely it's worth the trouble.
I'm fine with whatever you do, honestly. You're the big man here.
I would be grateful if you did anything to make this forum better, say, I'm grateful you have maintained this forum for years after Daniel left.

There already are user interfaces! Once you join an instance, everything is very simple. Like I said, figuring out which instance to join is the hard part. There are thousands of them, and there's no convenient list to help you find one that suits you. Well, there are some curated lists like this one https://fediverse.party/en/portal/servers/  I like their About Fediverse page https://fediverse.party/en/fediverse/

I don't know if it's worth it, but it would be fun. I don't know how much server costs would be.

You should look into using Soapbox FE https://soapbox.pub/

I'd be happy if porn was banned entirely. The community is rather anti-porn.

Imagine working there...... In addition to your job being super unstable and your morale and work ethic being shot to shit.... To add insult to misery now where you could once enjoy working from home, you must come into the office for at least 40 hours a week

I think the bulk of whats left will be actively seeking other employment opportunities

Even if most users wasted their money on the stupid $8 check mark which now doesn't mean anything, Twitter would barely make enough to even pay back the interest on its debt let alone make any return on investment

Insane death spiral. I dont think you need to worry about getting your account back wise. There wont even be a platform to host it soon

The sink he brought in was not for the lefties he wanted to troll with buying this stupid platform. It was for him

Oh, let me tell you, I have warn all the Ceo and other seniors of twitter to open my ban otherwise they are going to loose their job. What did they do? Nothing. For Elon, it only cost $44 billion. And now I'm not banned on twitter and all those statues of arrogance are out of business. Did I upset of this? Of course no. We call this divine justice.

Well, Twitter under the stewardship of Elon is now in a death spiral and unless he can turn it around and make an massive turn around in profit in a few months (without ad revenue) it will be finished

But you got your account back and it only cost him $44 billion (plus the interest payable on the billions he had to borrow). It probably also cost him a fair but in his other enterprises like SpaceX and Tesla and his credibility. But you got your account back online for the short time Twitter will remain operational so yeah, probably a good trade off

Im actually pretty impressed how resilient Twitter is.
Most people are now back to ignoring his every rambling, and not much of substance has changed.
It also helps that most people have a 20 second attention span and forget why they wanted to leave twitter in the first place.

Well, apart from it losing even more money than ever.

Maybe in the last 2 weeks. But you dont build business's on 2 week news cycles. Musk is stuck with twitter for a long time, if he likes it or not. So if he at some point stops screwing it up, it can recover well.

My impression is that the first few months will be "chaotic" as he restructures it. They need new people, new systems and a new message. If its a working model, they will do fine. If its not a working model, it will slowly bleed to death.

Only time will tell.

Definitely a better deal than he loaned me $100 billion. Elon knows this business well. Twitter can go bankrupt, no problem. Look, I can still get in. How much can you buy this for? Priceless, come on!

God forbid we should discuss things on this discussion forum.

Are you suggesting that people who have made a load of money are incapable of fucking up?

What do you think?  You reckon that being baited into paying $44B for a loss making company and loading it up with $13B of debt is a good idea?

I was kinda surprised the complaining about Elon went on so long, but then I remembered the blue checks are the ones doing the most complaining and they are mostly journalists. They will try to keep the outrage alive as long is it gets them clicks.

Not much more to add, but here is the alledged email...

Going forward, to build a breakthrough Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, we will need to be extremely hardcore. This will mean working long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.

Twitter will also be much more engineering-driven. Design and product management will still be very important and report to me, but those writing great code will constitute the majority of our team and have the greatest sway. At its heart, Twitter is a software and servers company, so I think this makes sense.

If you are sure that you want to be part of the new Twitter, please click yes on the link below:

[Google form link]

Anyone who has not done so by 5pm ET tomorrow (Thursday) will receive three months of severance.

Whatever decision you make, thank you for your efforts to make Twitter successful.
