Is it just me or does this seem really stupid? He's just wearing one of those red nose things and people are hailing this dude as the most amazing Pope that ever lived.

That's setting the bar pretty low if that's all it takes to impress people. There's a million things the Catholic church could do that would actually help people, and all of them are more impressive than having fun in front of cameras.

I'm not taking issue with what the Pope is doing so much as the way Reddit seems to have a huge hard on for a guy that is essentially the same as every Pope previous to him. Some of the comments in that thread are down right dumb.

Also, I've been seeing that around too, but to a worse extent. Specifically, those images where it's like "tha pope sold his limo and bought an old 1954 car wit buncha miles on it!!!" and "thea papa fired a corrapt gai and is giving money to children!!!" or something and everyone was freaking out with excitement and taking these random image posts as true without looking into them at all and, what do you know, both stories turned out to be drastically altered versions of the real stories that are much less 'amazingly generous'.

Its not low, its radical.  Most high ranking figures are so obsessed with image that anything that shows humanity is frowned upon.

A lot of atheists are just bitter Christian haters and I guess it makes them happy to see a nice guy Pope. Even if stories about him are exaggerated.
