The job is not giving examples of a time when I did something and how I overcame the obstacles that arose. but most of all, I'm not being paid for any of this. Its a lot of time to put in to get nothing out of it. This is why I don't want to make it to the final two if I'm not going to get the job. Imagine giving up a few days to fly half way around the world for a meet and greet ... for free.

Irrelevant.

Where I work, we've had people who were rejected thank us publicly for the interview experience. You know why? Because it's an awesome place to work, and the interview process is designed to be just as challenging and stimulating as the job itself. People who would enjoy doing my job enjoy interviewing for it.

If you're not enjoying your interview, you won't enjoy the job. Trust me.
I'm going to side with the white supremacists.

This is false.
My job required no computer repair.  Just a lot of questions.

His problem, I think,  isn't the specific aspects but the process as a whole.  Which is a long, drawn out competition.

That's great, but he's not applying for your job, which makes everything you just said completely irrelevant.  Most employers still rely on tedious interviews full of stock questions that are too vague and broad to properly relate to any specific job, and the person who gets hired is the one who has the best interview, not necessarily the one who will be the best at the job.  Yes, it's a retarded system, but nevertheless, that's how it is for most of the world.  Your job is the exception, not the rule.

Sounds like a pretty dull job.

What is your job?

I lead a team of five (myself included) Linux sysadmins in the web hosting industry.

Most employers still rely on tedious interviews full of stock questions that are too vague and broad to properly relate to any specific job, and the person who gets hired is the one who has the best interview, not necessarily the one who will be the best at the job.

Most employers suck, and they tend to be the ones who rely on such interviews. I would classify these jobs in the "not enjoyable" bucket.

Also make sure every time you click something on your PowerPoint, the 'Applause' sound fills the room. It makes them aware you are worthy of applause. And make each line of text zoom in from a different side of the page. It will keep them guessing.

I may have to try the applause thing one day.

Yesterday a large spider appeared from behind my desk whilst I was typing. I let out a bit of a girly whimper. I then went to get a cup but when I got back, it had gone!

I slept badly knowing it was somewhere in my room.

Then this morning I found it. Trying to ambush me from my sock drawer.  >:(

You need to find one of these spiders, put it in pizzaplanet's room and film the hilarious consequences of him finding it.

I expect a shrill scream, lots of pacing around and hand wringing followed by some drastic and irrational action.

For extra effect, hide the vacuum cleaner, cooking utensils and pots and pans. Try to make sure its on a surface that is not hard and smooth. On a curtain or with a couple of legs safely tucked into a large crack or hole. Make hissing noises from behind the door. Spiders like that hiss, right? Or squeal? They squealed in that film Arachnophobia. Make squealing noises; he won't know any more than I do.

Why didn't you just pulverise it with a shoe or other blunt object the first time you saw it?
Because it is one of God's creatures. Its outside wrestling a squirrel now.
