A parachute in an atmosphere that's supposed to be 1% of Earth's. A small helicopter working in an atmosphere that's supposedly 1% of Earth's.

And people can't see an y problems with this.

Absolutely baffling to all hell.
Wouldn't that mean something like 1% the lift anf 1% the resistance on parachute?

Luckily humans are pretty clever. We didn't just drop a drone designed for Earth's atmosphere on Mars.

We dropped one designed for the Martian atmosphere.

Nobody says boats are impossible because helicopters can't fly underwater.  ::)
It seems boats are impossible on Mars as all water there is trapped in the crust as crystalized, hydrated sand. Maybe you need a crust breaker? But the weather is good on Mars! No clouds! Always sunny! But cold! A fantastic place for a vacation. No rain!

Mars is also good for helicopter rides, I've heard.

We have to fly somewhere cause the Earth will soon become overcrowded and there won't be a place for living.

So how is flying to a planet incompatible for life as we know it going to help?

In terms of resource availability, mars in overcrowded with one human on it.

At what point do you think earth will become less habitable than mars?

It’s not that we need to go to Mars specifically. But humans absolutely need to adapt to life off Earth at some point.

It would take a huge amount of work, resources (some which aren't from Earth or Mars) - and time, to Terraform Mars into something humans could survive on. It's theoretically possible. Practically? We need world peace and uniting behind a common goal to pull off the mammoth effort

And no, Elon Musk is not going to get us there and his brain fart of an idea to 'nuke Mars' just shows how science illiterate he really is. He's just a meme edge lord appeasing to the morons among us.

Even if you could get us there it wouldn't be worth going, Shifter.

Humans can be cruel but they are nearly never cold. If I could describe you and everything that may follow you in one word it would be "cold".

I don't know how anyone was convinced this was anything except a bad idea, but when you're making Frankenstein viri in secret labs, I guess it isn't surprising.

Everyone always wants to talk about God flooding the Earth but they never ask what we did to deserve it.

Also why don't you put your neural networks to work getting us out of low earth orbit instead of getting clowned on by a guy who digs holes for a living on the flat earth society.

If you wanted my attention you have it Crouton.

Its not necessary to terraform Mars. Besides, we wont be able to do that for the next 1000 years. Until then, we can build massive habitats on Mars.
And Mars can be made plenty warm. If you lived on the Mars equator, you would be warmer than many people in the Nordic countries year round.

Why?  The place is an absolute shite hole.  Even after a full scale nuclear war and winter earth would still be way more habitable.

The reason to go is not for some kind of back up or alternative to earth. Its a hell hole and near impossible to live there.

We need to go because its a hell hole and near impossible to live there.

As humans tackle harder problems, we need to develop new solutions to those problems.
Going to Mars is all about developing new solutions. The harder the problems, the more creative the solutions will need to be.

Every problem there, requires new solutions that people can solve there, that could help us solve problems elsewhere.

NASA has developed water recycling technologies that no one would have developed if not for them. This could be instrumental over time in low water areas on earth.

At some stage, humanity will need to learn how to access resources off earth, if we want to maintain a sustainable planet. There is an infinite amount of resources off of earth.

Going to space is about going to other planets eventually. Mars is a logical next step

If you move fast enough, everything appears flat

Adversity breeds innovation. But in order for Mars to be habitable, it needs to be liveable. If we start off with some habitats, it will be completely dependant on earth making it very expensive in resources. They will forever be dependent on earth for survival.

Terraforming it will be a massive engineering undertaking and if the video from Kurzgesaght presents the easiest way, it can't be lived on while that happens. It's an all or nothing approach

Mars needs an oxygen and nitrogen atmosphere. It needs nitrogen in the soil. It also needs a magnetic field or a deflector.

If all mars had were a bunch of habitats and earth was obliterated, those people on Mars would be f#&cked

We need to go because its a hell hole.

This sounds like the plot of a video game.
