Cheese and shramp! I've never tried that combination but it sounds kind of good. I wonder if I'll ever get a chance to go visit this delicious sounding orb.

I started my post with general information from the books, so no one can argue about its authenticity, then I got down to my point - the moon glows in the dark and does not reflect the sun's direct rays onto us!

Not receiving any comments on that particular point in discussion, makes me wonder if I really has hit bull's eye, this time!

Maybe you missed this:

Anyway, have you considered that it may be this...

...the Moon's orbit is inclined to the ecliptic by about 5 degrees which is the reason why we do not see a solar eclipse during every new moon.

...that may also be the reason why the moon can be lit when on the other side of the earth from the sun?

The full moon is lit by the sun. The earth gets in the way relatively rarely.

[Sorry to everyone for the serious post - you can all go back to moonshramp now.]
This might help. It's a near scale drawing of the earth and moon at the time of a full moon.
And, before anyone asks, no "full moon" is ever perfectly full. The nearest we get to a full moon is at one particular time.
For example the last was on Sunday, 12th March 2017 at 14:54 UTC.  At other times it would have been imperceptibly "less full".

You see; I was under the impression that the full moon phase happens when the moon and the sun are in exactly opposite directions and the earth in between, as the attached picture!

Then how do you explain the full moon in the picture, when the moon is completely behind earth?

I also missed out something; when Rowbotham delivered those lectures, I don't think he was talking about a round earth, because the Zetetic Society was pushing the flat earth model.

So, I wonder if what Rowbotham said about the moon being phosphoric would work with the courses of the moon and the sun over a flat earth.

To be honest, flat-earther's have not presented a convincing model of what they believe earth would look like, nor have they explained the courses of the sun and the moon in a way good enough to debunk the round earthy model.

Well, maybe we are used to the ball, and kinda hard to imagine ourselves standing on anything else!

Your picture is illustrating a lunar eclipse. When this occurs the moon is indeed less lit by being in the shadow of the earth.

More usually though, when the moon is full it does not go into the earth's shadow because its orbit is inclined to the ecliptic by about 5 degrees. This is something that was mentioned in one of your items of 'research'.

Does that make sense? Also, if you want to see a lunar eclipse, there is a calendar here.

by the way, if the moon was phosphorescent...wouldn't we then have a perfect full moon every night? where do the different moon phases come from then?

Clearly the moon is sentient and in on the conspiracy.  It knows which bits to light up to exactly match the round earth model.

Devious moony bastard.

Maybe the moonshramp migrate in such a way as to appear like the moon is being partially illuminated.

The thing about Rowbotham and his theories regarding the moon is that his body of work is nearly 200 years old.  In that time we've seen exponential growth in cheese technology with many of the U.S. states dedicated to it's advancement.  In my lifetime alone well over 25 different types of cheeses have been invented.  While none of these cheeses match the physical characteristics of the moon yet it's easy to see how we might one day create a cheese that accurately models the moon.

When the moon is directly behind the Earth it's in the Earth's umbra and there is a lunar eclipse.

Ok - case closed here and surrendering to science! (God is still there, though)

We landed on the Rock, and I admitted to that in a new topic in the General!

At least, my daughter is happy now and back to dreaming of going to Mars!  ;D

Maybe the moonshramp migrate in such a way as to appear like the moon is being partially illuminated.

Clearly the moonshrimp only bioluminesce when they are bathing in sunlight. The phases of the moon are then explained by the position of the moon relative to the Earth and sun, and if we look at the reduction in luminescence during a lunar eclipse we see from its shape that the Earth is a sphere and ... oh crap, back to the drawing board.
