Hillbillies are from the Appalachian Mountains and the Ozarks. They were descended from Scotch Irish immigrants, they were somewhat isolated from the rest of the US, since they lived in remote areas, and they retained a lot of the clannishness their ancestors brought with them. They became famous during Prohibition for making moonshine. They are also famous for their feuds (Hatfields and Mccoys), and their music, oh and I almost forgot flat foot dancing!
Jesco, the guy tap dancing on the table, burned his brains out huffing gasoline, but he was a great dancer.

A redneck might be a hillbilly, but they aren't the same thing.
