He's likely talking about Communism as defined by Karl Marx in which there was no bourgeoisie. Common usage has long overwritten it's original definition except in disciplines like economic theory.

To my knowledge, all governments thus-far identified as Communist, have had the government act as the ruling class who owned the means of production, which is completely contrary to Marxist philosophy.

I just had a Chinese student stay at my house for a week over spring break. He told me a friend of his wrote something bad about the government on the internet, then the government came to the guy's house at midnight. Then took him away in handcuffs to jail. He also told me drug suspects are shot on the spot, no trial, no jail, just bullets. Weather you are 4 years old or an old person. I also believe the US government still classifies them as communists.

Alright Thork, calm down. First off I am 49. The Chinese student is a friend of my son, they both go to the same university. During Christmas break the Chinese kid stayed on campus for month, with no one else there and no hot water. We asked him to spend the week with us, we did not charge him anything.

We required no payment of any kind from the kid. At least with the people I know in the US, hopitality and accomodation is not unusual. It was fun to have the guy with us for a week, I know he appreciated it. There was no abuse of anyone, and I think he appreciates America a little more than before he came here. For goodness sake get your mind out of the gutter. >o<

 He told us how when Moa Tse Tung died that his grandfather went and layed down on the floor crying and banging his fists, in front of the communist leaders. He said he grandfather was actually happy the he was dead. He said they also made other people cry for his death to put on TV, but the people were actually at gun point to make out that they were sad.

"The same people" doesn't even make sense considering all politicians hated and disagreed with Zedong. And the Chinese are now living in homes with privacy and an emerging middle class. CLASS. Not Communism.

I won't argue that's it's still a strictly controlled country but that's not what Communism means.

Rooster you even have to watch what you say there. If you say someting wrong you get locked up and re-educated. The Chinese government is the best, and all other governments are bad. Yeah they may be paying them a little more now, but they seem like nothing more than slaves basically.

I understand, hoppy. But what Eddy and I are trying to tell you is that police-states or whatever is not Communism. Communism is a classless egalitarian system, more or less. Zedong had everyone living in communes for awhile. They had no privacy, they slept together, worked together (everyday, all day), ate together, and didn't even get to raise their own children. That's closer to Communism than owning your own middle class apartment and being afraid to write a blog about your government.
