Wouldn’t RET predict that an area bounded by two attitudes and two longitudes have northern border longer than the southern one, while FET would predict that the southern border should be the longer?

So, is the best answer that anybody can come up with "people in Australia can't work out where north is"?

I'm from NZ, and can work out where South is just by looking at a few stars, from that I can determine North.

How do you know that the direction you determined as North/South is the one you really need to use in a sundial?

Technically, I could make a sundial using any direction, I would just have to space out the hours retardedly like your FE maps have done with the RE world map.

Not really.  I can make a map on a napkin to my house from a pub, and it would work and everyone would agree it is observable, but it would be inaccurate.  The only 100% accurate map is reality.  We settle for less accurate maps because they are handy.  Given your model, road maps don't take into account the shape of the earth - but they are accurate and observable.

Try find the innacuracies in Google Earth, something that does the complete globe in a single map.

That is because a road map is only a small section of the surface of the Earth.  A flat map of the entire United States is fairly accurate, but not as accurate as a map of on particular state, which is also not as accurate as a city map.  The smaller the area being mapped, the less effect the curvature of the Earth has on it.

if you integrate to find the area of the state in polar coordinates (disk world) your estimation is off by almost 50%
