Just a little confused.
« on: August 30, 2008, 03:34:58 PM »
I am confused about what it is you believe and how you came to believe them.

If the earth is indeed flat then wouldn't that mean that it has an end? A giant end? And as I've read from the forums, i am lead to believe that the earth is surrounded by an ice wall. I may be wrong but that is what i have picked up.  How could this wall have gone so long without being discovered? Also doesn't this ice wall go through our hotter regions known to most as the equator? How does it survive?

OK FAQ is now read. I am unsatisfied with the answer, 'the sun acts as a spotlight'. Please explain how this works

Shine a small flashlight about an inch or two from a frisbee. Report back if the entire frisbee is covered in light or just a small circular section.

A flashlight is much different form the sun.. the sun is not restricted by the edges of the flashlight. It's light should not be lessoned let alone completley diminished due to the small change in distance...I mean small in comparison with the size of our solar system.

The sun is a spotlight; ergo, not that much different than a flashlight.

The sun releases light from all angles...a flashlight does not. what are you guys having trouble understanding about my question. Explain how this effect works... If you hold a lightbulb without the casing of a flashlight over a disk, it would cover the entire facing surface of the disk. Please explain how the sun differers from this example.

The light is limited to a spotlight by the density of the atmosphere.

I did and im still certain it would rise in the north east.
On the image, the continents are all squeezed together and distorted to compensate for the curvature of the earth being removed. Is this how you percieve the would to actually look or is it just a product of design to illistrate the point?

In the graphic shown, you are saying that the Southern portion of Africa will have a new moon whilst the Northern portion has a full moon. How is this so?

Also, in your graphic, it does not show the moon rotating, meaning that the moon will always be new in Southern Africa, and full in Northern Africa.

Oh, right. Even if the world isn't round, it's not flat either. There are still hills and mountains, thusly, you guys are wrong about the world being flat.

Game, set, match.

Oh, and another thing:

Quote
FUCKING RETARDS.

This is how you KNOW the world is round.

Step 1: Go to the ocean.

Step 2: Watch a boat with a mast go over the horizon.

Step 3: Notice how as the boat goes over the horizon you can still see it's mast but the boat is hidden from the curvature of the earth.

Step 4: ???

Step 5: Profit!

If this doesn't convince you, please explain to me how this works in your world.

I think they will claim it is the way we are perceiving it what with atmospheric density or whatever.

What they don't understand is that "atmospheric density" can only change with elevation.

If no one has mapped out the earth yet, then how does international travel work?  I mean, wouldn't an accurate map come in really handy?
