Whatsup guys.
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:54:29 PM »
Hey, how are you guys doing tonight?  My name is Floyd, and I'm really happy to have found this site.  I would love to share my views with you guys.  So now, onto my questions.

To be honest, the concept of a flat Earth really intrigues me, and I'm not one to dismiss anything, and I think that there is just as much as a possibility that the Earth is flat as it is round.  So, on that note, I'm happy to be here.  Thanks.

Oh yeah, sorry.  Well, my first question would have to be, what basis are you guys going off of that the Earth is flat and always moving upwards, something had to make you believe this theory.

Again, I am very accepting to it, and curious.  I just want to know.

A 2000 year old theory is their basis.

I'd say when I look at the earth it seems predominately flat. And the earth is continually rising up to meet things that I drop. You can do an experiment by standing on your chair and then watching the earth accelerate upward towards you. If you time the process, it works out to 9.8m/s^2 worth of acceleration.

Ah, I see.  Hmm, so in this theory, then the universe has no limit since we are constantly going upwards?

The way I see it, there are two approaches:

1) If we accept that the sheer mass of the Earth is not curving the surrounding space-time, but, instead, it is caused by us being in a frame of reference that is accelerating to an inertial reference frame, and, the acceleration of free fall is perpendicular to the surface of the Earth at any point, then, we must logically conclude that the surface of the Earth is flat.

2) The other one is if we assume that the Earth is a disk, we have 2 choices:
Either the mass of the earth is curving spacetime and creating an approximately homogenous gravitational field, or the gravitational field is caused by the aforementioned acceleration.

The limit would be the amount of Dark Energy propelling it (or whatever else one thinks is the mechanism for the upwards acceleration: Finger of God, Angels pushing, elephants atop turtle have gas,  etc).

I'm sure he could spell painful and bare correctly. I assume he'd be reasonably open minded. He might even enjoy hearing it. He might even enjoy hearing people's pathetic attempts to defend RE, even if he believes in the RE model and not FE's model.

Hmm..  Why is it possible to watch a ship "sink" downwards towards the horizon, then slowly come back up from it then, if the world is flat.

I mean, if the Earth truly was flat, then of all places, the ocean wouldn't have such a crisp and defined horizon then, would it?

I'm absolutely positive.

Probably not.  There is one thing I don't understand.  Why would they take fake pictures of the world being round for no reason what so ever?  Just to make people believe that it is round?  Why?  It would be pointless.  Plus, if other planets form as spherical, then you must believe all planets are flat?

I mean, I don't understand.  Do you even believe in other planets?  If the Earth is going upwards, then wouldn't it surpass the sun eventually?  Or is the same force ironically propelling both objects upwards into infinity at the same speed?

All the holes in their theory are closed with "It's a conspiracy". Apparently, the sun revolves around the earth.

There is even someone who thinks the moon is just the back of the sun. There is no explanation, I ask for evidence of an Ice Wall as stated in the Faq, and I have not had anyone post anything but garbage and nonsense.

I suggest reading "Earth: Not a Globe".  It's terribly fascinating reading. It also well describes perspective, though a search will find it explained on this site as well.

Why would all planets be flat? Galaxies are most often disc shaped and flat. All heavenly bodies must be round? All heavenly bodies must be flat? Cows have horns; all animals must have horns. The banana is not round; no fruits must be round. The platypus lays eggs; all mammals lay eggs. The platypus is venomous; all mammals are venomous. It just doesn't make sense.

Unfortunately, I saw that post.  The persons responding did little to clarify, and just stated that there was a large ice wall in the antarctic.  So I suppose that this wall of ice in impassable, even via airplane.  Also, I don't get how a ship can start at one point, then sail around the continents and start back at the same point eventually.  If the Earth is indeed flat.

Ski, I was just stating that it seems illogical to think that for some odd reason the Earth is flat, yet all the other celestial bodies around us are spherical. Things are shaped the way they are for a reason, they just don't come out flat or round randomly.

Try reading our FAQ.  The latter question is explained.

Nobody said the ice wall is impassable.

Hmm.  Indeed, it wouldn't be impassible.  But on the other hand, anyone who has flew over the Antarctic, I'm sure will state that they didn't fly off into space.

That's not true. Galaxies are almost always discs. Not all heavenly bodies are spherical. It seems illogical to think a mammal can lay eggs, and yet there are those damn monotremes mocking us...

Perhaps they didn't fly far enough "outward'. I like to think Steve Fossett made it, but I admit it's just a flight of fancy (so to speak).

Well Bushido, let's be logical here please, I'm not trying to be rude, many of you are very intelligent.  But, you think that as long as we had the technology to accomplish such a feat, that no one ever in the entire world for any reason has ever flew over the Antarctic?

You seek logic and offer none. I can't understand your statement. Please rephrase.

I suspect that they flew over Antarctica (atleast in part), but not in the way you are assuming.
