Coking coal is used in blast furnaces to turn iron ore into iron. 

Ask "what is steel"?

Somehing anout coke.


To make steel, oxygen must be removed from iron oxide. In order to do that, a fuel called coke is required, and that's made by heating metallurgical coal in a blast furnace

Indeed, but there’s progress on the  steel production front.  Recycled steel can already be processed in induction or arc furnaces and several companies arc working on replacements for coking coal, eg hydrogen.
