Title: Milk
Post by: grogberries on February 24, 2010, 01:31:57 PM
When I buy a carton of milk, do you think it's likely that that is only one cow's milk? I would think that it is a combination of many cows.

Yes it is. We have a farm near us where you can go and see the cows being milked. The milk all goes into one big jar before going into cartons. Then you can go to the farm shop and buy the fresh milk.

Don't they pasteurize it or something?

Milk doesn't have to be pasteurised but most of it is. The farm shop sells unpasteurised milk which does not last as long before it goes off.

That sounds unhygienic.  According to Google, raw milk has lots of bacteria in it.

According to science, the human body has billions of bacteria in it. Bacteria aren't necessarily equal to disease. Also, there is a minute chance that the milk in a carton is all from one single cow. It's just very unlikely.

The ground beef you buy at the store is more than one cow.

If I owned a dairy moo cow, I'd only drink milk that came from the same utter. I'd be that picky.

And here I thought "utter" was an adjective.

You probably want to make sure that the cow wasn't fed antibiotics and growth hormones before you drink raw milk.

When I was in America I couldnt buy milk that didnt either have something taken out (that is, skimmed or semi skimmed) or something added (vitamin D, Vitamin B12, blue food colouring and stuff). Do they sell pure milk anywhere in the USA?

They sell whole milk. I buy organic whole milk all the time. I don't drink any milk that is non organic because they feed cows really weird things here.

For some reason the only organic milk here is semi-skimmed and I like all my fat in the milk so its a hard choice between buying whole or buying organic

I make my own chocolate milk with that ghastly powder shit. Tastes okay when you heat it, though.

Title: Re: Milk
Post by: Mugthulhu on February 26, 2010, 05:42:54 AM
Nah. How about blood and pus caused by hormones fed to the cows to produce milk faster? Oh, and the bleach that makes the milk white because all the blood has turned the low quality milk into a pink/red color.

Sure, the shit is pasteurized, but all that crap is still there.

Title: Re: Milk
Post by: Mugthulhu on February 26, 2010, 06:23:54 AM
Yeah sure, they cook it to kill bacteria. But that doesn't mean that all that shit disappears. It may be dead, but it's still there. Not to mention that pasteurization also kills all the good bacteria in the milk. Pasteurized milk is nothing but white liquid made up of dead shit, with the calcium added later on.

Unlike Muggsy, I am not frightened of milk.

The grey clouds whipped low overhead as the Viking hordes charged forth from their longboat, splashing through the shallows and the stinging drizzle as they drew their axes, ready to unleash Norse death on the feeble Saxon dogs who cowered on the beach. With the battle cry of "SAK!", the roaring Vikings were mere feet away, gripped with a berserk bloodlust, when one bold Saxon, Aelred the Dairyman, stepped forward from the throng and held before him a pail of milk. The invaders stopped as though struck by terror, their well-made Scandinavian leather sandals scrabbling on the shingle. As one, they dropped their weapons and trampled back to the longboat, yelling "Cöw milk! Run awåy!!!"

I'm sure they had high quality milk back in those days. Unlike the hormone produced low quality crap we get today.

Mugsy, you shouldn't worry so much. They centrifugate the milk before packaging to get any particles and excess fat out. If there really is blood and pus in the milk to begin with(Keep in mind that I don't drink milk produced in eastern Europe), I'm sure they take it out that way.

Actually, it's the vitamin D3 that's added back to the milk because the Pasteurization process destroys it.

Originally I was going to defend milk, but then oh, wait ... I saw how Monsanto was part of the process with dairy farmers.  Hhmm where have I seen that name before?  Oh yeah right ... the chemical giant that then became a biotech giant, who in the 60's and 70's was one of the producers of "Agent Orange" for U.S. military operations in Vietnam, and in the early 80's conducted field tests on genetically engineered crops, then in the early to mid 90's industrialized coolants known as PCB's were discharged into creeks and by '02/'03 were sued for 700K dollars.  Oh yeah right, now I remember those guys.

And let's not forget the bovine growth hormone product, Posilac, a synthetic hormone used to increase milk production in cows, which is banned in most 1st world countries, but not in the U.S.  Maybe I need to re-think the drinking of US milk eh?
