Milk
« on: February 24, 2010, 01:31:57 PM »
When I buy a carton of milk, do you think it's likely that that is only one cow's milk? I would think that it is a combination of many cows.

Yes it is. We have a farm near us where you can go and see the cows being milked. The milk all goes into one big jar before going into cartons. Then you can go to the farm shop and buy the fresh milk.

Don't they pasteurize it or something?

Milk doesn't have to be pasteurised but most of it is. The farm shop sells unpasteurised milk which does not last as long before it goes off.

That sounds unhygienic.  According to Google, raw milk has lots of bacteria in it.

According to science, the human body has billions of bacteria in it. Bacteria aren't necessarily equal to disease. Also, there is a minute chance that the milk in a carton is all from one single cow. It's just very unlikely.

You probably want to make sure that the cow wasn't fed antibiotics and growth hormones before you drink raw milk.

When I was in America I couldnt buy milk that didnt either have something taken out (that is, skimmed or semi skimmed) or something added (vitamin D, Vitamin B12, blue food colouring and stuff). Do they sell pure milk anywhere in the USA?

They sell whole milk. I buy organic whole milk all the time. I don't drink any milk that is non organic because they feed cows really weird things here.

For some reason the only organic milk here is semi-skimmed and I like all my fat in the milk so its a hard choice between buying whole or buying organic

Nah. How about blood and pus caused by hormones fed to the cows to produce milk faster? Oh, and the bleach that makes the milk white because all the blood has turned the low quality milk into a pink/red color.

Sure, the shit is pasteurized, but all that crap is still there.
