I've got my first exam today, on flight instruments, electro static discharge, and basic computing so now I'm panic cramming because of course I put off studying until the last minute.

I'd steal you a plane but I wouldn't want to fly in any of our planes that have been taken apart and put together again many times by people like me

She felt good enough to harass the urchin next door, but her energy ran out quickly. I still can't get her to eat food, but she did lick some sour cream off my finger, and she ate a greenie.

What's a greenie?

A greenie is a very expensive dog treat that's supposed to help clean their teeth. They are not worth the money, but Beebee loves them. I have found a different brand that is half the price, so she gets one of them a day.

My monitor is 1600x1080, but tricks Windows and Linux into thinking it is 1920x1080. At least on Linux I can resize the taskbar...

Goddamn it! Christmas is over the new year is in, (happy that to all by the way), and I’m back here watching the mental people argue a cause lost in the bronze age, resurrected on the medium that paradoxically contains the greatest amalgamation of knowledge ever known but dredged by those afraid of the vastness of the universe and their concomitant insignificance for anything that puts them back to centre stage, and proves their favoured magic being really is there and cares.

All that aside I wish you all well, and if you could petition your deity to give the UK a two-week grace from the rains, my dogs and I would be eternally grateful.

Does it matter?

If a tree falls in the forest, and the only people who hear it don't believe in trees falling, did it make a sound at all?

Of course, it does. This is no home to subjectivists.

I have been tending my garden and asking myself, "What would Space Cowgirl do?"

(Okay, that is at least partly a lie, but well-meant)  :)

Space Cowgirl is about to mow the garden down for the summer!
We have just arrived at 100 degrees here which is about the time I decide to abandon working outside in as much is possible.
Last year I started late and tried to keep the crops alive, and then a storm did in the corn just before it was ready, and a swarm of beetles appeared nearly overnight and ate the squash and melons literally in 36 hours. I was so irritated-- and it was just a project! I cannot imagine the frustration felt in the days when such a failure would have meant disaster.

Yeah, I am grateful for the produce section at the store! Even keeping a small garden is hard work.

My great-grandmothers both made it seem so effortless. But it is a worthwhile project. I have had so much okra the past few years, I have ended up giving away and throwing away a ton of it. It grows so effortlessly here. I don't even particularly like it unless it's fried or in meatloaf. My freezer was full of okra last year until I finally decided I didn't need to keep it if we're doing this every year.

This is why the plantain is a go-to vegetable in Puerto Rico.  It is one of the few crops that grows very readily there and takes less effort than many other crops.  The problem is, it is one of the least nutritious vegetables you could pick.  But they love it and have it at nearly every meal.

Easy is not always the same as good.

We have a ton of plantains! Our plantains are an herb bush. They grow like weeds in many areas near here, but I don't know anybody that tends them or uses them for food or medicine, though the natives did historically.
I imagine you could probably convince the banana/plantain you are thinking of to grow here, but it is quite dry here, and it would need lots of attention.
