None of those things incentivize competence. Dont get me wrong, not many democracies require their presidents to know the difference between bleach and water. I just think maybe its time we start thinking that it should be considered.

I mean, you need training and a certificate before you are allowed to connect a toilet to the water mains, but run the country, na, any old pedo can do it.

I see Biden is trying to beat Trump at his own game of spewing questionable nonsense that should normally end one's political career.

I suppose we're now obligated to entertain the theory that it's all part of some 4d chess strategy and that Biden is a genius.

Surprisingly (or not surprisingly, seeing what a garbage fire Trump's response to the crisis is) he seems to still be winning by quite a bit though.

America's response is complicated.  Adjusted for population we're actually not doing that bad.  Most countries in Western Europe are doing worse than us.  Because we're more decentralized than people think a lot of the responsibility of dealing with this pandemic falls on governors. 

For Trump's part in this, okay this is damning with faint praise but I think it's better than one would have expected.  Just because he hasn't used this as a Reichstag fire.  Yes, he has advocated drinking bleach and taking pills to treat a disease he doesn't have that's intended to treat a different disease he also doesn't have but he hasn't turned into Hitler.  And if ever he had the opportunity to it's now.

You really just can't say for sure which one of these dinguses will win. A lot can change between now and May. If the economy recovers at all Trump's approval ratings will go up, but if he keeps getting caught wearing a mask his QAnon fans will get mad at him.
