The Earth was in fact, PROVEN to be round when we took the first photographs of it from space. The only reason that you can have this society is because you claim the conspiracy has faked this, which it did not. For a FACT.

Have you been to space? Have you seen the curvature of the horizon with your own eyes?

we haven't seen it from space. but people have seen the curvature of the earth.

like how when a ship comes over the horizon you see the top of it first.

ship over the horizon

If you try to keep watching a boat as it heads out to sea, the reason that you are unable to continue following it as it disappears is because of the large amount of molecules that you must see through after some distance. As the distance gets greater and greater, the number of molecules that get in the way continues to increase.

When you see that an object gets lower as it gets farther away, it is because the molecules closer to the ground are denser than the molecules in the atmosphere and there's also a little bit of isostasy involved as well.

Seeing as there's been millions of pictures supposedly from space, and seeing as there's loads of footage of satellites and rockets going into space, it's quite clear people have been to space, and it's quite clear at least some of the pictures are fake.

Just what makes you think the pictures are fake?

Actually, I'm correct.

Look at these facts:

1. Light travels at different speeds through different mediums (Scientists are reputed to have made light slow to almost a complete stop.).
2. Denser air sinks to the bottom.

If you put these two facts together and presume that the air which sinks to the bottom allows light to travel through it slower this means that light will curve downwards slightly. Now on a small scale this wont have much of an effect but on a much larger scale such as across the Earth it would explain the horizon effect.

The curvature of the earth doesn't need to be proven from space. Any mountain in the world you look off of gives a clearly sloping horizon. So go and see it for yourself. I have and it is really an undeniable fact that if the earth was flat there would be pictures of it from these mountains, planes and so on, so bite me.

and the idea that a large anount of dust or molecules or whatever you FEs want to call it obscures our view after a certain distance is just childish. Try actually studying the human eye. We can see a candle in the dark from 14 miles. in sheer daylight the potential, even on the            air-polluted planet is thousands of miles. So take another bite!!!

I can prove they aren't fake by showing them to you. That means they are real. And the whole idea behind the conspiracy is ludicrous. For no single and binding reason they have, which means there would be splinter groups in the conspiracy. And the way a planet is shaped would have to be noticed in the SPACE AGE. And I can prove we have been to space. Take a plane to follow a satellite day and night refueling, as you assume they do, so that you will see it continually stays in the orbit around earth, and is not being refueled. Or make a chain of people around teh Earth to report in if they can see it or not. that way you can say conclusively if there is a conspiracy you crazy bastards.

Nah, he would claim they knocked him out with some "government gas" and fed a "government" simulation right into his brain to make him think he went to space and saw the curved earth.  Who's to say they dont do that?  Havent we all seen Men In Black?  The "government" can do some crazy things!

Show us quantitatively what this means, Tom.

None of this means anything until you actually calculate the effects you claim.

Evidence is a double edged sword . . . please show us.

I'm not letting you off the hook on this one, buddy.

What is the gradient of air density within a few hundred feet of sea level?  I don't think your gradient is going to be strong enough to produce these effects, but you might prove me wrong.

I think it would have more to do with the index of refraction (where light is bent towards the normal of the gradient).  The index of refraction might change with air density... There's a big hint.

I hope you will either prove what you are saying or retract your statement.

Oi! eviltoothepaste guy, FE's claim that there is a conspiracy involving NASA, the government, countless international scientific organisations and so fourth. But you will accept that scientists have almost stopped light in it's tracks with no evidence.

And light travels at such great speeds that almost any curvature up to 90 degrees makes no difference to what humans see.

That Tom is a robot set up by nasa?  Just multiply the # of his posts by the coefficient of friction, and divide that by the speed of light.  Easy as pie.

Physicists have been able to slow the speed of light for a while now. See: http://www.hno.harvard.edu/gazette/1999/02.18/light.html

Basically, light will slow when passed through a thick medium. If light is passed through water, its speed is slowed significantly. Following this train of thought, light near sea level naturally moves slower because there is more air density to pass through. On the horizon this effect builds up to such a degree that the ship may be seen to sink into the surface as it reaches a certain point.

Air density at sea level is dependent on air temperature, altimeter setting, and dew point. On a normal day density at sea level is 1.225 kg/m3 (0.002378 slugs/ft3). This is enough density to affect the speed of light over a distance of 25 miles.

Your beleiving this physicist about slowding down light, but you won't beleive another who proves RE?

You can't pick and choose to fit when it suits you, When you do noone will beleive you because of it.
