Firstly, I have no axe to grind, secondly, sorry if this has been asked many times before, I'd just like to know.

In the sphere model of the earth, there is a Northern and Southern hemasphere. In the North, the water draining out of a bath does so in a clockwise direction, in the South, the opposite occures, it drains anticlockwise. The explanation is that as the world is a sphere, it spins on an axis which the water follows.

I would like to know the explanation of this phanominom according to the flat earth theory. Why does it not all drain the same way or in any way at all?

Thanks

I  am pretty sure that they have tested that and its false. From what I remember at least, I havent looked it up. So don't quote me on it.

This is not true.  The coriolis force is far too weak to be seen in the way your sink/tub/toilet drains.

Sorry, what do you mean by this exactly, I just went an looked in the sink, it was going clockwise. Are you suggesting its random? Why does it rotate at all?

Also new question. The moon. It is too a 2D, flat planet similar to the earth, then how come the various craters and patterning on it changes.

What he meant is there is almost no way of testing this theory because of the very little gravitational force exerted upon the sink. Its such a small amount that it would make almost no change. Your sink is going clockwise. if you want to test it, go to brazil and check their sinks.

No, not random.  The way your sink drains depends on the shape of the bowl, the placement of the faucet, the location of the drain, as well as the velocity of the water.

No, that's not what I am saying.  I am saying you can't see the coriolis force in your sink.

if you take a piss in a sink from a yard away and make sure the stream is 100% strait you only get a answer depending on the level of the floor or the shape of the bowl...experience is fun.

So when the water drains in a clockwise manner, this is due to the physical factor which you mantioned, such as shape, velocity etc. So it is technically possible to make my water drain the other way if I had the correct type of sink?

exactly, if I lean to the left it drains clockwise while if i lean to the right it drains counter...piss in the sink for yourself... you'll see.

what if you have a square sink? then you will just be pissin on walls and it might just shoot back at you

ahh, but if you lean back and arch your piss i will fall to the bottom with minimal splatter on your walls and feet.

actually.. if you get too much arc, you will just end up pissing in your mouth, so heres what you do, piss straight into the drain.

Keeping the idea of pissing to one side, I prefer to simply put a plug in and fill it up using tap water, otherwide I have to drink too much.

Anyway, so if I take my consistently clockwise draining to, say, Australia, it will still flow clockwise if the water velocity is the same?

Why do all (that I am aware of and have ever heard of) sinks in the uk flow clockwise? Is this part of the governments plan?

no, the logical reason is that velocity and shape are slightly different in other countries.

Velocity and shape of what? The sink and tap water? What if I take my sink (that is of the clockwise type) and take it to Australia, then fill it and take the plug out so the flow is the same? What factors are influincing it then? I would be prepared to use a spirit level etc.

well, it would still spin clockwise (as long as the same sink and same water velocity is used)

there are a lot of factors involved... like when you move the sink, was it damaged? Secondly, the wind, temperature, gravitational pull. All of these are factors in trying to figure out what the frak is going on.

Design.

Think of it this way:  The earth rotates once per day.  So the maximum rotation that can be imparted to the water is one rotation/day.

Ok, so taking it that I could take my sink to Australia and get it spinning clockwise there, assuming all those factors are just so.

Would you say I could create a device, possibly using a fan to create wind and such, to reverse the effect here in the UK?

Cool, do you think there is a novelty market for one, we could make some serious cash and help prove the FE theory at the same time. That would be a real ya boo to the government. Who wants to help me build one?

the real question is why would you want to create something that changes water direction in the medium you excrete waste in?
