I need someone intellectual and well versed in flat earth theory

Hi,

I am arranging a debate between someone at my work place who does not believe the flat earth theory despite my hours of putting forward flat earth arguments (im on the fence about it). He agreed that if I can arrange for someone well versed to talk about it via skype then he is willing to listen to the arguments.

If this does turn into a debate it will be moderated by myself as im not biased.

Please let me know if anyone is willing to discuss this as I think we need people to discuss and debate the flat earth theory and the laman thinks that flat earther's are a bunch of trolls which I know is not the case.

I would suggest Tom Bishop (if he's willing). He frequently engages with RE folks and he has demonstrated quite a bit of mathematical understanding.

Also, having interacted with several FEs in different capacities now, I no longer believe they are all trolls. There are trolls, but far fewer than I had expected. (Not really hard-core data there I know.)

There is an easy test. If he understands trigonometry he knows that earth is round. If he says otherwise he is a troll.

That assumes there is a flat earth theory other than "the earth is flat". Any debate you hold will necessarily be against a particular FE's ideas as there is no commonly accepted set of ideas.

Flatties come in 3 categories:

• Idiots
• The insane
• LARPers

Though these are not mutually exclusive.  Which of these classifications would he like to talk to?  We have all 3 here.  The ones you'll get most sense out of are the LARPers - I'd recommend "ski" personally.  He's polite, sensible and knows his physics.

when you start off by saying your friend doesn't believe in the flat earth despite the hours you put in putting forward the flat earth arguments, you pretty much lost any claim to being unbiased in my book.

The crab said it perfectly. Anyone who claims he's on the fence about something as clear as the shape of the earth is very definitely a flat earther trying to make himself appear intellectually unbiased.

It's a shame we no longer have brotherhood of the dome around anymore. He would be your man. Why? Because unlike almost everyone else, he wasn't LARPing.
