Whenever you attempt to illustrate a globe on a flat map, the continents near the edge become distorted.   The map with Australia elongated is called "polar projection"   Maps where the equator is a horizontal line through the center are called "Mercator Projection"  On those maps you'll notice that Greenland is greatly enlarged and distorted.

What is the point of a Q&A section if every time I seem to answer in the spirit of the rules, it gets moved to debate/general (is there really any difference between those 2?)

Sailing around a continent as large as Australia to map its coast line is a pretty crappy method though. Much better to launch a satellite

Why do you think it is crappy? It involves taking measurements. They measure longitude and latitude angles based on the Sun and time of day. This gives you lots of dots on a spherical Earth. Then you connect the dots and voila!

If you want to believe the Earth is flat, you can still take the same measurements and place dots on your map. You will end up with a scaled shape I suppose. The overall form would still be there.

The methodology is smart. Perhaps you don't understand how it works.

Yes, we know that you "do not want to talk about an issue" that proves the usual flat earth map is totally incorrect.

You,  like so many flat-earthers, simply ignore evidence against your ideas, just as you do with your silly "black-listed airlines".

Legal warning:

Flat earth theory is the most nonsensical and worthless of all models. Somehow requires university education. Reading my writings is prohibited for younger then 18 years old as there is a risk of brain damage upon reading my awful/worthless nonsense.
