Though more seriously, the shape of the earth is enormously important for many people.
There are many whose tasks would be quite different on a flat earth or a Globe.

My guess would be that it wouldn't matter, people would still believe in FE, 911, and God.  Proof only affects certain people

Only some indisputable authority is able to make claims about absolute wrong vs right concerning the shape of earth and more.
I do not know such authority among earthlings.
I cannot convince others, because i possess the same human handicaps without absolute authority.

And it seems that greed, power and money is infiltrating ''scientific research'' more than ever before, so that we are further and further away from objective universally accepted ''scientific truths'' that does not seek to please anyone and has no other goal than to research, conduct, measure, conclude and repeat.

If one reads about the supposed ''lost / destroyed  technologies'' (from the highly technological advanced late sixties and early seventies concerning space exploration) that prevents NASA to go back to the moon on a short notice, i believe that i am dealing with scumbags of the highest degree that can claim whatever they want about earth in their hypothetical universe, but unless they show some signs of dignity, honesty and open minded debate i would trust a junkie to look after my wallet far more than NASA & Co. (A bottomless pit of taxpayer's money)
And without NASA most of the claims about earth, the moon and the universe would have to begin from almost scratch.

Not those old ones still in power (dependent on the same financial system that wants something in return......mostly the prefered and prefixed outcomes of any research)...they have lost any form of authority because of a failed true scientific system on each and every account.

Or are they specialised in just one particular aspect of earth and it's supposed shape ?

They are chosen because they know how to communicate with the general public....and they fall flat occasionally showing their total ignorance on certain aspects of their supposed expertise (Neil dGT not knowing and clearly mistaken the distance of the moon and sun in relation to earth and the visability of stars on the daylight surface of the moon)

Could you name a general accepted authority that has more knowledge that goes far and beyond a specialised fragment ?
Because most outlets seem to understand a certain fragment, but hardly know more than you and i about the broader picture.

Learn how to use a surveyors equipment and do it yourself.

I would think that they, like in pretty much any field of advanced study, would start with broad understanding of the size, shape and workings of the earth and then start focusing on specialties.  By the way, geodesy is only one of a number of branches of earth science, pretty much all of which relies on an accurate knowledge of the size and shape of the earth.

The key to what?  Do you think that the primary goal of science is to educate the general public?  No, the primary goal of science is expand our understanding of the finer workings of things.  Research papers and scientific papers are not meant for the general public, they're meant for other scientists in that field.  When dealing with the general public, sometimes they have to dumb things down so much that things inevitably get lost in the translation.

Have you tried your local university?  Science teachers, especially at the undergraduate level, usually need to have a broader understanding of things than the working specialists.  But you also have to understand that the broader you speak on a subject, the less precise the language gets.
