A large enough asteroid could survive long enough to penetrate our atmosphere. They travel quite fast and out atmosphere is pretty thin relatively speaking. In most cases C just bounces on A, etc, etc. Same with an asteroid X. If it manages to penetrate the atmosphere without burning up and collides with Earth, X bounces and/or causes local damages in contact with Earth. Earth does not become dust.

Re Stephen Hawkings and ALS I just suggest at my website that ALS killed in about six months my wife and all other people we got to know then getting ALS around 2001. No cure.
