Both.  The sun orbits above the equator during the spring and fall equinoxes (sp?).  It's not that difficult to figure out.

Seems like sloppy wording to me really.

The sun follows the path of the equator, deviating slightly from the center (explaining the gradual fading of equatorial desert land) as it shifts from equinox to equinox.

What the fuck?  Are you guys retarded?

In terms of the seasons and the path that the Sun takes regarding it's closest point to the Earth, the FE model is pretty much identical to the RE model.

Ie in both models on the equinox the sun is in a direct line above the equator.  In the Northern Hemisphere Summer, the closest point on the Earth to the sun is in the Northern Hemisphere and in the Southern Hemisphere summer, the closest point on the Earth to the Sun is in the Southern Hemisphere.  While, I do concede that there are a number of questions raised from the differences in the models and the related physics, I think that clearly the seasons model - on the points brought up in this topic - essentially works exactly the same in both models.  I'm answering this question, not as a DA, as I usually post, but in regard to my honest beliefs.  I wouldn't even call it a belief - I would say I know what shape the Earth is.

Let's just ignore your little FAQ for a moment about the north pole being cold because of the position of the sun (which it explains is due to the orbit of the Sun around the Equator). I think whoever wrote that should be shot.

Let's just assume that the Flat Earth has a Sun that moves hubwards during the Northern Hemidisc summer and rimwards during the Southern Hemidisc summer.

It still raises a bigger issue about the ammount of light that reaches the surface of the Earth. Beast you're in Hobart (supposedly, but I don't know what you're doing posting at 3:30am there), how long are the days lasting? If the Flat Earth model is correct that means that the sunspot* must grow as it heads rimwards.

I would also like to ask how the South Rim is completely covered in light while there is a dark spot at the North Hub for a few months but I know you lot will just say, "How do you know the South Rim is completely lit up for months? Have you ever been there?"

The obvious explanation is that the Sun speeds up as it moves further out - like how the outside of a bigger wheel spins faster than a smaller wheel.

Actually, I think you're moving towards what is, in my opinion, by far the strongest RE argument that I can conceive - but that I've never seen posted on this forum.  You should give it a bit more thought, and read up a little on the counter arguments that we (the FEers) put forward - because in my opinion, there is a killer argument.

Speeding up? That won't help. The different points of the southern hemidisc that can be covered in daylight means that the sunspot* must grow. Not only that, it would also warp in shape.

The growth of the sunspot can be accounted for by saying that the as the sun travels rimwards it also gets higher. How do you account for the warping of the shape though?

*sunspot: area lit up by the sun.

I don't know enough about the Sun to know why it changes shape.  The height explanation could well be true.

Or maybe the atmosphere is changed be the heat, making light easier to travel through it, and we can see further - meaning we can see more of the sun.
