Membership Question
« on: September 02, 2015, 05:02:37 AM »
Hi,

I'd like to become a Friend of the Society, but I see they're out of medallions. Any idea when new ones will be in? Thanks!

Daniel makes the medallions, so it could be a month or it could be 2 years.

Ok, I sent a message to Daniel weeks ago but I haven't heard back. What do I have to do to get my question answered? I would think this group would be more interested in getting a new member on board and taking their money.

I was hoping to complete the paid membership but unfortunately those aren't available right now.  So, I emailed and asked for the address so I could do the basic membership.  The email was returned to me as spam or something.  I requested the address through the facebook page and nothing.  Does anyone know how I can become a member?

Ok, I had forgotten about this, but I thought I 'd bump this and see what happens. I e-mailed back when this thread started and didn't get a reply. I'd like to join, but I just wanted to know when the medallions would be available. Has anything changed? Thanks!

I'm currently working on a new set of medallions, though their price is a bit much so I'm trying to look into cheaper options, different packages, etc. You can see a sample on my twitter somewhere or on our blog where we presented the prototype to B.o.B.

Membership *should* be opening up soon.

A few folks have sent postcards with checks to our mailing address and I'm adding them to the registry.

I'd rather provide a paypal. I may even code up a checkout page this week for another project, and adding paypal as a payment gateway usually is pretty fast.

Also any funds raised through the membership will go right back towards the membership packets and getting the raw materials for the medallions etc.

You can get membership currently by sending us a postcard. It doesn't help that we've moved our states mailing address however. I'll get that back up on the site soon.

I am receiving an unexpected signing bonus for a new job I'm taking in the next few weeks. Once that's done, I'll be donating some of that money to the flat earth society to create a new set of medallions.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply. I've been holding off on membership because I really want one of those medallions, I think they're cool, and will look really nice framed with the membership certificate on my office wall. Looking forward to it, please keep us informed.

I'm referring to the bit where you take money off members in return for the medallions. Which, if it's going into your pocket, is taxable income.

I have offered many times to donate what the FES needs funds wise.

Unfortunately I cannot offer anything else as online tech is not my Forte.

The cost on the medallions were too high to manufacture to match the prototype. Other priorities have taken our attention recently, but reopening membership is still on our radar.
