Make your own mead, Muggy.  I know a guy out there in Finland that makes Sima.  I could get the recipe from him if you like.

I'm pretty sure my friend makes a more mead-y variant.  I think it does use lem0ns, but it is definitely honey mead that he makes.  I think he just calls it Sima for lack of a better term.

Actually the liquor laws here are a bit oppressive, though in recent times have been becoming more and more lax.  The alcohol content in beers and ales and malts and such are limited.  I don't think there's any limit on other alcoholic drinks content-wise, but you can't get hard alcohol from anywhere but the state operated liquor stores and are limited in how much you can buy.

A couple of the things that have been changed lately, is that you used to only be able to get hard drinks in a bar or club setting at private clubs that had to limit and monitor membership.  Also, the actual bar at said establishments had to be behind a 3 foot thick wall or some shit like that.

I like low alcohol beer (Koff I to be precise). I do find it amusing though when the person on the till feels the need to point out to me that I'm buying non-alcoholic beer (that was their words, I guess they don't consider low-alcohol to be alcohol at all) like I'm a retart and don't know what I'm buying.

Also, sima is nice.

I wouldn't trust this recipe. I've made wine using baking yeast and it was like drinking stomach acid. You can buy yeast that does well with almost anything online for about the same amount of money as baking yeast. Their fermenting process is a bit sloppy, too. If it is anything like wine, you let it ferment in open air until it slows down then put it in a water lock (which can be made from a tube in a glass of water). When you use baking yeast, the fermentation goes really slow. Wine yeast picks up pretty fast then slows down after 3 days. The yeast are going to produce dregs you will want to filter out by siphoning. I am not sure how long it takes this to clear. Wine takes around 6 months.

here you can swagger into a pub or an off-licence and buy however you want, of whatever you want, as long as you're 18.

I was drinking absinthe recently, and some 120 proof bourbon (that reeked of ass actually, but i was fucking leathered at the time)

Having said that, there was recently a beer taken off the supermarket shelfs here because that many people complained that it "glamourised getting drunk" or something equally studpid. It was 17% abv beer

Nah that is how you make sima. People make it that way every may over here.

Though the recipe of Finnguide says to add molasses too, but the process is the same
