Why would you have separate debate and Q&A forums if they were not meant to be separate?
If I want to debate I put it in Debate. If I have a question I put it in Q&A. The thing is, questions often lead to debate. And then people have to start threads in debate about the same topic. Then people have to go searching for the debate thread if they read the question. If that's how you want it to work then fine.
Because it's hard to click the mouse a few times and look for a few seconds.
Just set the threads to notify you when there are replies. Simple.

I am not saying that it's hard, just that it seems unnessesary.
Honestly, I think he is just trolling at this point.  Probably best to move on.

I think Junker is right.  Nobody can be this dense.
I'm not trolling. If you want me to start a debate thread for every one of my questions then I will. Either way, I'm done on this thread.
Anyone with a phoenix avatar is clearly amazing.

Don't be butt hurt.  We all give in to the FES eventually.  Just stop trying to debate in Q&A.  That is all we are asking.

RE Phoenix you will notice that I did what you are saying is too much work and then the mod, seeing that the conversation was shifting, merged the threads.  Its like a collaboration.  All sides of the community have to work together to make it a good system.  For the part of poster's they just have to follow the rules and respect the topics of each forum.  Its really simple when you get used to it.

This is why I suggested, a while ago, that we just merge forums.  Every thread turns into a debate eventually.

You already know that you're not going to accept any of the answers, right? So why bother with the Q&A forum at all? Every question you could think up has probably already been answered repeatedly, you could probably search for your topic, find the answer, and then start a thread in the debate forum.

Markjo would be a lot more helpful if he bothered putting any effort at all into his posts. He just regurgitates the same one-line questions over and over again, never bringing any original or helpful ideas to the table. Honestly, I think he is purgatory material, but if I ever wonder why he's still there, I just have to view the title of this thread and sigh.

Questions rarely lead to debates. Loaded questions lead to debates, and hijacked threads become debates. These two categories make up 90% of threads in the Q&A, which is dumb and should stop being a thing.

Following a question that has been answered there is, in my view, no problem with users pursuing the relevant line of argument in order to test that answer. But it is frankly unhelpful when users who have been around for ages effectively hijack that process in order to score points. There is an egotism in asking questions that you know the answer to, merely to display as much.

It would be very nice if a forum norm were to develop whereby RE veterans would simply butt-out of threads where newcomers are genuinely trying to understand FET. I guess I can dream...

It doubt it would work as a given rule, but a created social norm is a different beast. At best we can all act as best as we can and hope it develops naturally. There are times we had it, and times we didn't.

Rama Set, who are you going to baaaw about next?

Yes, low content posts are not allowed in the upper fora.  When a topic is dead, however, it really does not seem so bad, does it?

Rushy and I slipped and made a few low content posts.  But there was nothing else to say  about the subject, other than to have a joke.  You do have a sense of humour, don't you?

But, for Rama Set's sake, I will personally try harder not to have fun here.

Have you been banned for making a joke once in a while, or just reminded about the rules?

Reminded about the rules. Like I just had to do to you. When I am reminded, I acknowledge it humbly and do not try and defend my actions, but would accept whatever judgement is passed. What's worse is that you are supposed to be the one that can be trusted to uphold the rules. But you are currently not showing the necessary maturity level to do so. By all means though, continue to rationalize and excuse yourself from doing your job properly.

When I read that, in my head, I heard more an more hate with every word.  Do you hate me?  For real?

I am a janitor.  I keep the fora clean.  Spam gets put in the trash.  Porn goes to the Mod only forum.  And, when people break the rules, I let them know.

I am human.  I try to be serious as much as I can.  But, I will admit that I do slip.

Don't be a d*ck about it.  I made a joke or two today.  Whether or not they were funny is beyond the point.    You are over reacting to this website and trying to get me in trouble.

Aren't you a moderator now? Not a janitor? Or are the Moderators still janitors? I thought we considered the Curators the janitors. I know it wasn't the editors...

If someone has been warned several times but keeps repeating the same mistake, then maybe he deserves a harsher punishment, like a ban. Don't you think?

Rama, I'll be honest. You're coming off as a bit of a prick here. Maybe tone down the arrogance a bit.

As a former moderator who was demodded for doing essentially what you all are suggesting, I assure you that it's a bad idea. The Bamhammer should be wielded with discretion. Blanket warnings without consideration of context are... inadvisable. People take them badly.

The last thing I'd like to say is that the entitled attitude needs to stop. Jroa isn't getting paid to police this forum, nor are the other mods and admins. They're doing it for the love of the community. It's fine to criticize where you feel it's required, but the mods spend countless hours keeping the peace here for you and that should be remembered.

Now, Rama, stop smugly rationalizing your bullying and apologize to jroa. Or you will find that this forum quickly becomes inhospitable to people it does not like.

Jroa and I have handled this privately. Thanks for the input Tausami although I never asked for anyone to be banned. I never even implied it. As you suggested I criticized when I felt it was required and I am now over it.
