Do you really believe the earth is flat?
« on: April 03, 2013, 10:31:32 PM »
I know that there are a lot of people here who have been members for quite some time, and I know what the wiki says (that this site is for real), but could someone in the know please tell me, honest to god, are you guys just taking the piss?

I don't want to argue or debate in this thread, and I'm not interested in any evidence, but could you long-time members please tell me, honest to god, cross your heart, swear to die (no backsies); do you really believe that the earth is actually flat?

If they've been lying about their feelings for years and years, I don't think they'll tell the truth in this thread. Good luck, though.

I'm curious. It's hard to gauge what people believe here (or at least what they say they believe), and I wanted to get an idea of what proportion of people have one view or the other.

The earth is definitely flat and bumpy, it is most definitely not a round ball floating about in space and spinning and bulging and all the other absolute garbage said about it.
It's flat, it's huge, most probably infinitely huge as far as we can contemplate.
People go on about a round earth being round because it's inside a vacuum and the vacuum of space shapes it round. If that's the case then it should be round and smooth shouldn't it and it's most definitely not.

It is 100% flat and bumpy and is the floor of the universe we perceive, simple as that.

What is your opinion regarding its shape?
It depends on how you want to look at it, or vision it. The habitable part is basically a circle of which the sun/stars etc all rotate around, then after that becomes semi habitable Antarctica close to the edge of the habitable circle stretching further out where no man can tread or fly due to extreme temperatures.
After that, who knows, there maybe attached other circular land masses and seas with another sun further on than we can go and so on and so on.
Whether they are teeming with life like we are in this part, we may never know but any other life in my opinion would only exist on this earth somewhere and not in what we know as space, which I believe is basically a monstrous electrical nightmare as far as us ever exploring it as I do not believe we have the capabilities to breach even a small part of our true atmosphere above what we can realistically fly into for definite.

Sound mad?
Maybe so but it cannot be disproved.

I'm pretty sure to community of flat-earthers contains some very "open-minded", but otherwise normal people that actually believe the earth is flat. I'm just not sure how many they actually are. I'm also quite sure a large part of the community is made of people that are here just to have a laugh and take the piss at "roundies". Then you've got the "special" people: the intellectually impaired, the paranoid, the delusional; the kind of people that are naturally drawn towards a good conspiracy story.

Me, I'm here for the entertainment value. Some of the things I've read here are extremely interesting, from an intellectual perspective. Others are extremely hilarious. The bit about the dangers of moonlight, that's pure gold right there. And then there's the guy who even that "flatsies" shun.

Still, if the flatsies ever come up with some groundbreaking proof of their claim, something that isn't only backed by fringe "science" from the 1800s and talk on a messegeboard... I'm willing to listen. Preferably something that doesn't hinge on a ludicrous global conspiracy (that since last December now includes North Korea).
I don't want to believe.

It's round (like a marble, not a plate!).

Surprised that there are no "agnostics" yet, as I've heard some say they don't really know for sure. My question is, what is it like to really believe it's flat? When I look out at the night sky and picture the full view of it and our position in space, it's exhilarating. When I think about what flatsies have to ignore and deny, well, it must feel suffocating.
Giess what? I am a tin foil hat conspiracy lunatic who knows nothing... See what I'm getting at here?

"Come to the Flat Earth Society Forum Website for Entertainment"

I have suggested this before, but everyone should visit Mc Donald Observatory in Texas and attend a "Star Party." But  Flat Earther's be forewarned !  : You will of course  have to assume that Mc Donald Observatory is obviously just one more member of "The Round Earth Conspiracy."

I forgot to mention that Mc Donald Observatory is connected with The University of Texas at Austin.
So, Aggies, just keep in mind you can't believe anything that they might tell you at the Mc Donald Observatory of course !
"Stand together, that's the Aggie Theme ! We're the Twelfth Man on that Fighting Aggie Team !"
Another good suggestion for a Flat Earther's song !

As it's been pointed out to me, there's no round Earth conspiracy. Only a space travel conspiracy; apparently its perpetrated by NASA, but they've got at least 60 countries to go along with it (I'm referring to the countries who claim to have or have had satellites). It's a marvel of international cooperation, really.
I don't want to believe.

Well the data is still anecdotal at these numbers but it's interesting that there seems to be a clearly higher number of RE believers, but I guess that would have been expected intuitively.

I'm surprised by the low number of agnostics though. I'd have thought that many of the sincere members her would fall into that camp..

The majority of the evidence points towards a flat Earth, and therefore I conclude the Earth to be flat. So yes, call be a believer.

I'm not going to deny that some of the people on this forum are trolls. Any topic this controversial will attract bored idiots who just want to make someone angry like moths to a thing that attracts moths. But anyone who stays here for years and for thousands or even tens of thousands of posts clearly believes in FET. You'd get bored long before that point.
