Dadrock: The movie

All right, I think we all need to stop using the term "dadrock" now.  Apparently, everyone here defines it completely differently.

It's actually the latest installment in the long line of lazy hack productions that are usually referred to as "jukebox musicals."  Basically, they're hoping that the audience will be so wowed by the shitty Autotuned covers of popular songs that they won't object to the most generic and basic plot of all time with every dumb cliché thrown in, as well as the retarded, campy atmosphere.

No, but Glee's music isn't specifically targeted at my generation, and based on what I've seen, it's just a shitty show anyway.  Also musicals can be fun.  Wasn't Grease fun?  Little Shop of Horrors?

Did Tom Cruise build his body for the role naturally?
I saw a slight haze in the hotel bathroom this morning after I took a shower, have I discovered a new planet?

Rock of Ages was a musical before it was a movie, so the writing could be decent.
I don't know what you're implying, but you're probably wrong.

If Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, and Whitesnake are not dadrock, I don't know what are.  The reason I think this is probably because my dad listens to all of these.

I remember liking Twisted Sister back in the 80's, but I can't help think they were making fun of the direction dadrock was going in at the time.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

Then "dadrock" is a pretty useless term for describing music.

Oh yeah, and I was going to write this big long thing about hair metal and why it's silly to use it in the context of a musical, but I don't really need to.  It's just that, personally, I can't stand jukebox musicals.  It's a lazy way to cash in on the popularity of other people's songs, and the music never properly ties in with the story.

Wasn't there a terrible movie just like this about 10 years ago?

Here it is:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0202470/
