Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum, but if it isn't please move this and my apologies.

I'd like to start off by saying I don't believe the world is flat, but I'm still curious about the things posted on this site, so I hoped I could ask a few questions about it.

Contradicting your beliefs outright isn't an interest of mine, as I assume they can be argued over ad nauseum. I have two questions I'd like to pose for those who wish to answer:

1. What's the benefit in believeing the world is flat as opposed to round? If the world is indeed flat, is there some advantage that knowledge would give us?... or its simply a matter of wanting the best possible understanding of reality?

2. Also, what drives people to reject the round theory and believe this? Does it simply align better with other views in your life? Is it anti-government sentinment?..etc..(I don't mean to assume the reasons, just giving examples).

I'd like to add that my questions aren't loaded and I don't mean them as a setup for a rebuttle or something...
Ty for your time .

This is the right forum for all questions about the FE model. Welcome.

I think everyone agrees that there is no benefit to either theory; if it was discovered tomorrow that the earth was truly flat, none of our lives would change in any appreciable manner.

Many of the FEers on this site think the RE model simply fails to explain the world we live in adequately. It looks flat, and the claims made by the RE model aren't compelling enough to believe otherwise.

The next question you're likely to ask is regarding religious motivation, and I can assure you none of the active FEers on this forum derive their belief from religion.
