He never challenged the assertion, so no, he doesn't need to prove him wrong. He was pointing out that the "Earth is a triangle" joke has been done somewhere in the vicinity of two or three hundred times now, and is not funny. Not even a little bit.

I'd believe it (since it also goes very much in accordance with the "it looks flat up close" idea regarding the FET), however you still have the problem with pesky gravity.  Everyone in the lower latitudes would still be upside down or at silly angles!

Surely by simple obervation of the Earth on a personal level it appears flat.  That's why so many ancient cultures believed it was flat and it's why with science and philosophy and advancement in society we came to understand that it is spherical.

Surely we are too small and the Earth is too big to be able to accuratly tell by just observation that the Earth is round.

Go down to the coast and watch a boat come inyou'll see the mast first, this is because the earth is round, on a flat earth you'd expect to see the entire boat at the same time. This can be demonstrated wit a toy car and a beachball to a 5yr old.

It's pretty hard to prove it that even a 5 year old child could understand because they can't even begin to figure out the concept of gravity.
