I don't know any of the genre's of dubstep or much of the terminology, but could someone explain the difference the style between these two artists? The most I have found is someone describing Klaypex as "party-step".

I still think this first one sounds like garbage, along with most of his stuff I have found from this guy:

" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">SKRILLEX - Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites

But I actually like the sound of these two a lot! (the drop doesn't come until 55 sec in, for both so just wait for it)

I think Skrillex is actually really good. I understand people don't like the 'filthy' sound (for whatever reason, I know hating it is cool and all), but I think he does it really well. Not to mention he's brought dubstep into the mainstream almost all by himself (inb4 hipsters' "but mainstreem is bad).

So is that what the different is? Skrillex is filthy and Klaypex is not?

Yeah, I think he's got some really interesting sounds but at the same time all of his 'wubbing' bits in the songs are very similar.

Only in the sense that all guitar solos are very similar. They all use the same 'sound/instrument', but they do it differently with different chords and notes.

Meh, I've heard more variation in it. I think even by that standard, it's samey.

Seeing as he's only made a handful of songs, I'm confused what's 'samey' about it. If you hear Ruffneck (FULL Flex), Kill Everybody, First of the Year, and Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites and could get those breakdowns confused...well...I think you might wanna worry about your ability to recognize unique sounds.

TIME FOR SOME DUBSTEP CATCHUP

I've massively gone off anything that can remotely be considered brostep (aka Skrillex and most of the dubstep that people seem to like).

On the other hand, listen to this.

" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">THIS

That is why dubstep is good.

It's shit.

That doesn't sound like dubstep.  It sounds like mid to late 90s ambient music.

About a year ago, a friend showed me a track by Skism called The Blank. I remember liking it a lot, although I'm pretty sure that has more to do with the monologue that runs throughout, it lends a wonderfully dark atmosphere to the piece. I'm not saying the music itself is bad, although on relistening just now it is a bit too WOB WOB for my taste. The monologue is still fantastic, though.
