DOCUMENTARY FILM ON FLAT EARTH
« on: March 09, 2011, 08:44:12 AM »
Hi. I'm a documentary filmmaker based in the UK and I would really like to find out more about the Flat Earth Society, it's scientific ideas and theories, the history of the Society, the goal of the society and find out more about it's members. If anyone would like to get involved please leave a reply to this message. We are just in the early stages of research at the moment. What we would really like is to arrange a sit down interview with some members to get your views on why you feel the earth is flat and what you think of the current scientific views on the subject. Would also be good to maybe film at any events that are put on by the society.

This is not a film to make fun or patronise peoples views but to try and understand why people have such a belief.

Thanks for your time. Please let me know your thoughts and ideas for the programme.

Erm, Markjo ... he is looking for people who believe the earth to be flat. Not people who believe the earth to be round and moderate a flat earth forum.

It will be a veritable FE scrum of the usual media whores, jostling for exposure and recognition in their expertise of all things flat. They know who they are. However it might be a fun game for everyone else, to name them before they volunteer themselves. A sort of "I knew he was a media whore" game.

PS - this should not be in FE Q&A.

Why wouldn't they be interested in markjo? The forum is a pretty important part of FES and he has a fair degree of knowledge about the members, the theories, and all the various doings on the forum.
How dare you have the audacity to demand my deposition. I've never even heard of you.

It has well been established that markjo is a FE'er playing the role of DA. He has admitted this himself. He can provide the film crew with a unique perspective on FE belief and theory.

Its irrelevant. John Davis will push him to the floor and tread on his face faster than Markjo can say 'flat'. Oh, I started the game ... there are others though :)

Yeah thats fine. My name is Jonny Lewis. I'm a film maker from University of Wales Newport. I've worked on a wide rage of documentary subjects, including the troubles in Northern Ireland and the IRA, Rugby, music videos for different bands an animation for BBC4 and various charity films. I won a National Student Television Award for a short film I made about Royal Mail which you can view here" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">

My films have been screened at many film festivals.

I will be honest that I believe the world is a sphere, but maybe you could persuade me it is in fact a flat earth and the film would provide a platform for you to present arguments to convince a larger audience. I think people would find the subject fascinating which is the reason I would like to make a film on it. I am as interested in the different individuals as I am in the society as a whole. The film would be between 10 and 30 mins long.

Please let me know any ideas you have. I'd love to get a wide rage of people involved.

I'd love to be involved.  I regularly perform interviews concerning the flat earth society including one with the BBC and one upcoming with a small internet radio station.  I used to run the Chattanooga flat earth group and am also the leader of the IAFEG as well as in the long process of creating a Knoxville gorup.  I'm also talking with another film maker about a short documentary about myself as a flat earther.

I have sent you my information.

Also markjo wouldn't be a bad choice to interview;  hes well knowledgable about the online doings of flat earthers, though he may lack in knowledge about real life groups.  Many of those are religious however too. Plus he's not partial to either side in particular, aside from being a Round Earther.

Where did I indicate that I would be interested in participating in this project?  I've been here for almost 3 years and have seen several legitimate requests for interviews.  I've also seen several not so legitimate requests for interviews.  Is it wrong for me to skeptical?  Even though I'm an RE'er, I'm still somewhat protective of TFES (which is probably one of the reasons why they made me a mod).

I think it's smart to not use abbreviations without the full name the first time you use them.
