Couple problems with the flat earth theory
« on: January 08, 2011, 05:27:46 PM »
You would have to do a very good job to convince me of something as false as the flat earth theory. My cousin is Eric Boe, a BASA Astronaut, and a former fighter and test pilot. Let me tell you, if he's part of the conspiracy and he's lying about ever being in orbit, he would have to be the greatest pathological liar ever known, with the dozens of hours of stories he's brought back from his job, it would be the most perfectly spun web of lies ever, without a single inconsistency or contradiction.

About 15 years ago, while he was a test pilot stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, he and his friend offered me (actually convinced me, more-or-less) a free ride in a Lockheed U-2 at 70,000 feet. After a tedious hour of putting the "space suit" on, and a 20 minute eardrum shattering climb, we reached cruising altitude at 70,000 feet and a minute later peaked at 71,200 feet!! :o Now, not that I personally would need this as proof that that earth is round, and I know you flat earth conspiracy theorists will either deny my claims or try to explain it away, but after passing 55,000 feet altitude, the earth's curvature becomes obvious. You can clearly tell that you are staring down at a small portion of a huge spherical object!

Just a couple more questions for you...

What about other space agencies around the world? Are they part of the conspiracy too?

What about the Moon, and other celestial bodies in our solar system, are they also flat?

Also, If the earth isn't a spinning sphere, what other than the Coriolis effect can possibly give our weather systems their spin?

Also, if anyone has circumnavigated the Antarctic coast, they would have been able to disprove this theory after finding out it took them only 10,000 miles to do so, instead of the 40,000+ miles it would take according to your theory and your flat earth map. I would assume Antarctica has been circumnavigated before, and I'm sure you will never find any instance anywhere, where it took anyone near 40,000 miles to circumnavigate the Antarctic coast.

Thanks,
Jason

My apologies, I wasn't aware there was a FAQ that dealt with some of the questions I posed. However, the FAQ doesn't address all my questions, which it would have been nice for you to answer, but I guess it's easier to just mock me instead of trying to answer me, right?

Okay first, if the Moon and Sun are "spotlights", they can't also be spheres, a luminous sphere won't produce any sort of directional beam. Common sense. The McIntyre model cannot be right either, because if the sun and moon were flat discs, they would appear oval or oblong if you weren't directly under them (their zenith) because of your perspective. They would change shape as the day goes on. Secondly, Why don't you guys agree on one model?

The FAQ does not address the Coriolis effect and its relation to the earth's weather.

I see the FAQ also has alternate maps of the flat earth. Just like alternate explanations of the sun and moon, Isn't it kind of funny that you guys don't even have one coherent model of how this all should work? The map that shows Antarctica as a distinct continent is in direct contradiction to the map you have posted in your FAQ, and if you believe the "antarctic continent" map is right, then I would like you to take a boat from the Aleutians, sail due south and tell me you didn't eventually end up in Antarctica. As for circumnavigating Antarctica in 10,000 miles, you would have to refer to the "antarctic continent" map, which like I said, directly contradicts the map you have posted in the FAQ.

A lot of you flat earthers argue that science is a conspiracy, but you also seem to hold a lot of weight to the Dark Energy model.

The FAQ also does not explain why I saw the earth's curvature with my own eyes

A couple more questions I would like for you to answer are: How was the earth, moon and sun formed? And why is the inside of the earth Molten?

That's a blatant lie. One doesn't have to be stupid to overlook the FAQ. You're stunned by it? What, am I the first person ever to post here without looking at the FAQ? Also, if you didn't bother to read my post, the FAQ doesn't address all my questions, and in fact, the FAQ doesn't sufficiently answer any of my questions. It also contradicts itself in many ways. And just what exactly do you mean by self-importance?

Hey everyone; can I get clarification on this article has this been brough up before on this site? Seems like it would be a cheap and easy way for any Flat Earther or Round Earther to prove his / her point easily and with direct photographic evidence  ;D

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1260323/British-aerospace-enthusiast-takes-NASA-style-photographs-using-helium-balloon-pocket-camera.html

And some pics from the above atricle; for the lazy basically

I believe that the earth is round just in case you were wondering; sorry to hijack your thread earthisroundDUMMY but I though those pics would backup your U2 flight experience. There is a youtube vid of James May going up in a U2 stunning.

Thanks all.

The problem is that there are a hundred people with 1-5 posts that post a big block of questions without consulting the FAQ. The fact that you aren't familiar with the FAQ indicated that you haven't lurked the forums and are posting before getting a background on the subject. In fact, the FAQ and various Threads answer all of your questions, I don't have to find the answers for you, we have a search feature for that. As for the self-importance...

But like I said, the FAQ and other threads don't really answer any of my questions, there are multiple half-assed explanations for most of my questions, and almost all of them just contradict each other. As for someone who has background on the subject, you shouldn't have to find any answers, you should know them already, shouldn't you? What I said about your intimidation had nothing to do with "self-importance", it's just that you clearly are intimidated, not by me per se, but rather by my story. That is why when you had something to say for yourself, it was a mock and an insult, instead of guidance or answers. And what does misspelling your name have to do with any of this?

You're really going out on a limb to dodge my questions here...

I have another question that the FAQ couldn't address, that I would like a FET to answer:

International Space Station seen through earth-based telescope
" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">
-This can be done by any amateur astronomer who has the money to get a good enough telescope, and there are many, many different videos of it online... Are all of them part of the conspiracy too?

I would like to see some proof that what the OP claims happened actually happened. I do not think this is an unreasonable request, as people come in here almost weekly claiming to be astronauts or the like.

Proof? What proof am I going to have? The documents are long-lost. If I was able to take a camcorder or camera up there with me, and somehow manage to operate it with that suit on, I would have. I have pictures of me in front of the u-2 that I would have to get scanned, but that wouldn't get very far as "proof". If I am some day able to find the documents, I'll get them scanned too, but I know even if I do that, you'll say they're not mine, or I forged them...so what's the use??

Besides, your request is just another attempt at taking the attention off my questions...

No it isn't. We get people in here all the time saying, "I am an astronaut, and I have been to space!  I have seen the Earth is a globe!"

I see no reason to believe you are not one of them, especially considering every other post of yours is an attempt to ridicule.

you just keep dodging my questions. still never answered one. really sad. I'm not here to troll, which is probably the reason you joined FES in the first place, so you can wait for people to come here simply asking questions, and piss them off with accusations and question dodging. With almost 6000 posts wasted on trolling and arguing false points, I think it's time you get a job, or some friends, or both. I came here to ask a few skeptical questions, If I can't get them answered then I'll just leave, knowing you were either not competent enough, or confident enough, to answer them.

Yeah that's pretty much all he does here. You'll find debates with EG are completely unproductive as he contributes nothing of substance.

*Hands up*

It is quite possible the earth is ROUND.

*Hands still up*

It is quite possible there is a teapot orbiting Uranus.

*Hands still up, though getting shaky*

It is quite possible there is an asteroid made of ballistics gel.
