If the Earth is indeed flat, why do we have night and day? If the planet is horizontal then there would need to be a great mountain range in the middle to block the sun. If it were vertical then the entire side of the planet would have the same daylight hours. In both cases sunrise and sunset would require contouring that doesn't exist on Earth.

according to the flat earthers, the sun is very close and very small, casting only a small enough amount of light to light a small part of the planet at a time. however, a better question would be, if we are to assume the circular nature of the distribution of light, as we almost always see from unguided light sources, why does the lighted side of the planet follow along lines of longitude, creating time zones?

Also, the sun, being a star, produces energy through nuclear fusion brough on by high pressures and tempuratures of collapsing gases. At only 35 miles across, the sun would be depleted of its helium source in only a few months, and collapse into a negligible neutron star, so small that it probably wouldn't even register on any of our modern tools. And this is all assuming that a 35 mile body of gas would be enough to start fusion in the first place- it wouldn't.

I think they have to just come out and say the sun is powered by God.  There is no explanation compatible with science which can be made.  I agree with Kevin on one thing: I'm surprised more people don't admit to religious beliefs here, because it's the ONLY way you can get away with believing this stuff.

The sun is powered by astronaut turds re-entering the atmosphere.

Well, today IS the summer solstice, at 1:11 pm my time, the sun will be at it's highest point in the sky and I intend to mesaure it's azimuth angle.

So, I have to figure out how the FE system works to 'predict' where the sun will be at that time based on FE theory.

So, I now understand how the time zones work under FE, and why only a small section of the disk is illuminated at any one time... and I should be able to calculate the precise position of the sun as it crosses the solstice point on it's circular path over the disc of earth.

I gotta say... ANYONE who believes that the earth is flat and that the sun behaves this way is a complete, stunning, retard. ONLY the total suspension of reality can allow someone to believe this absurd shit.

Heck, the simple fact that the sun doesn't change it's apparent size should be enough to shut this theory down. The observability of stellar parallax proves that the light from OTHER stars can go long distances, and yet our own sun is not visible if it's more than about 7,000 miles away.
