What conspiracy????

There are some posters here who suggest there is a conspiracy to inform everyone that the world is round, when it is really flat. I'd like to forego the "shape debate" and ask WHY people think such a conspiracy would exist ??

I'm not sure why a conspiracy would exist and I'm not sure anyone is, however I have to ask you a question. If for argument's sake there was a conspiracy that had managed to convince the whole world that the planet was round (the flat earth society and a few small tribes excepted) then given the incredible power of those who had carried out and enforced this conspiracy (convincing the entire world) how could we, in a situation where information is witheld from us to such an extent that we can actually be convinced that our planet is a different shape from what it actually is even begin to think that we can answer the question of why this conspiracy would have originated in the first place?

We all agree that the Earth has a reference elevation from Sea Level.  So if the oceans are flat, ..... then by logic, .... the Earth is Flat.
Of course this could be a Conspiracy, ... but Gee Wiz reader, .... I'm a slightly baked doctor.

Sea level is relative to surface of the earth...it's not a fixed point in space you know.  If the earth is round...so is sea level.  You've made this "point" before, and I hoped you were joking.  I still hope you are joking.
Besides the argument being bunk to begin with, "sea level" is just a man-given definition.  You can't use it to prove a fact about the universe that has nothing to do with man.  The earth is shaped how the earth is shaped regardless of how we define elevations.

The reference elevation is always seen as the normal of the point it is taken. As seen in:
