MMOs suck.

I can understand why the social aspect might not appeal to you.

I can understand why the constant grinding to reach the next level, boring objectives, piss-poor design, and thousands of shitheads constantly repeating "n00b" and "pwnd" might appeal to you.

Not really, that's why EVE interests me. It prides itself on not containing any of those things, in fact it's the whole basis for the game design.

Unless you remove the chat function entirely, people are going to say "n00b" and "pwned". It's a fact of life.

Also, every MMO is repetitive. No exceptions.

I've been playing for about 10 hours now, it's not repetitive and haven't seen the word "noob" or "pwned" at all. The sheer depth of the game scares that kind of moron off.
No but I'm guess your what? 90? Cause you just so darn mature </sarcasm>

It's crushing depth scared me off as well.  But the depth was mostly the realism mixed with the repetitiveness combined with the seriousness.  It's an MMORPG in the truest sense: Lots of people online all playing a role as a space ship pilot for the sole purpose of getting enough money/power to not die.

Which doesn't help if you can't remember the name of the system.  I'm sure it was in a log file... somewhere, but I didn't feel like searching for it.
To me, EVE Online is nothing more than a story-less RPG in which you fly around to get money to get bigger ships so you don't die as easily or often.  I'm a fan of story, what can I say?

There's tens of story arcs. You just need the money/power to make them interesting before it's worth doing them.

Autopilot sucks. It jumps you waaaayyyyy far from the gate, and is only really useful if you are going somewhere far, and leaving the house at the same time (or cleaning, or something)

Easier to just set your jumps manually when you are jumping through just a few systems.

The bandwidth it needs is surprisingly small, I can watch streaming videos, lurk on facebook and torrent while I'm playing with no issues on any of them. If anything, my torrent speed was slightly faster, but that's probably a fluke.

Just stay away from Jita, and you should be perfectly fine.

"CCP recently revealed that Jita is one of only 5 systems in the whole of Eve that runs on its own dedicated server hardware and doesn't share with any other system."

What is suicide ganking?

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Suicide_gank

That.

" 'Suicide ganking' refers to the practice of intentionally attacking enemies in high-security space, with the expectation of losing one's ship to Concord. Some targets have very valuable items equipped and/or very valuable items in their cargo, and killing them and recovering the items that are dropped will pay for the costs incurred in losing the ships necessary to kill it. Concord response times are longer in lower-sec systems, so suicide ganking is generally most profitable in 0.5."

OK advice wanted folks. I have downloaded Eve (which took 6 hours) and am playing through the tutorials but I dot think Im going to finish them before my 14 day trial is up and Im not sure if I will like it enough to pay. Apart from mining material and processing it, killing other ships and ferrying items to and fro is there really anything else that can be done in the game? It seems to me thats pretty much all there really is.

PVP, business...economy based gameplay. It's a game with space ships. There isn't too much you could really do in it except for, well, all of that.

You should be able to finish the tutorial during the trial. I managed to do that, and buy an ORE mining barge in 14 days.

There is only one thing limited on the trial account. I'm not sure what it was called but it was one of the skills needed to fly the bigger ships. I haven't been able to play in a while and am hoping to fix that problem on the tenth.

Or get an air conditioner. One or the other. Computer repair is most likely right now though..

OK. I am still playing Eve. I dont understand why when a NPC attacked my mining ship, and I didnt fire back, just ran away, why did the Aggression Timer appear and give me 15 min countdown? Isnt that for if I was the criminal? Will Concord come after me and shoot my ship just because some NPC turd shot at me??
