No Satellites? Are cell phones real then??
« on: November 06, 2009, 01:20:58 PM »
Cause you say satellites are fake, but I see people with cell phones and I don't know what to think.
Which brings me to my next question, are cell phones even real, or is it just a conspiracy?

What do satellites have to do with cell phones?  ???

I think that satellites have nothing at all to do with cell phones.

The same way cell phones do.

There are satellite phones and mobile/cell phones. The latter have indeed nothing to do with satellites. It's that simple.

Edit: Yeah, frostee, that's it.

Some pretty pictures you have there. Perhaps you do not know how a cell phone network happens to work

I know exactly how G3 networks work, which is by satellite (very similar to the picture I sent you).

So much so, that I haven't even clicked on your Wikipedia article. :)

What you are referring to are basic networks that we haven't used since "The Brick"

If you would like to get into a technology debate with me, PLEASE post somewhere else so we can have this discussion. :)

For the love of God, please tell me that you don't honestly believe that.

Arrogance and ignorance is a very powerful combination to overcome.

As far as I know, Iridium is about the only satellite phone system in commercial service today.

You may want to check your facts before engaging in such a debate.

I'm sure that cell phones don't necessarily require satellites to work--at least not within a local cell or between neighboring cells.  In fact, it would be rather stupid to relay a call from one cell phone to another in the same or geographically close cell via satellite.  However it is not unreasonable to suppose that over longer distances, especially intercontinental calls, that at least some telephone calls (both cell phones and standard phones) are relayed through commericial communication satellites (though most of them probably go by undersea, transoceanic cables).

A far more difficult question for FE'ers to answer is:  "What are satellite TV antennas aimed at?"  I asked that question in a previous thread, and no FE response came even close to being a reasonable answer to that question.

Optimal areas in the ionoplane(or ionsphere as flat earthers like to call it.)

That is a prime example of the nonsensical answers I was talking about!  I rest my case!

I agree on cell phones, but just how can GPS work without satellites?

Theoretically, GPS could work just fine using enough fixed towers.  However, anyone who has access to the proper radio receiving and decoding equipment can easily tell that the GPS system that we all know and love is based on a number of moving transmitters.

Actually, I am pretty sure the satellites are in geo-stationary orbit.

thanks, it did seem odd that the signal strength would be so high from geo-stationary orbit.  Now I know why, lol.
