That depends.  Who is he and why should we care?

Besides, perhaps FET is a conspiracy too.

He's a fairly well-known British astronomer.  He's written a number of books and had a chapter about the Flat Earth Society in "Do You Speak Venusian?".  That particular chapter is in PDF here if you want to give it a read.

I've just read and enjoyed it. I'd just like to quote one bit of it, the last sentence in fact:

Those who believe the world to be shaped like a pancake are among the most attractive of the really Independent Thinkers.

They don't come across on this forum as very attractive people. That's a personal opinion and not aimed at you Daniel but some of your colleagues. You actually seem quite a nice bloke.

Maybe he just meant that we're all very handsome.  The fact that I'm nice is just a bonus!

I've seen this before.  I like this bit about the FES's reaction to Sputnik I.
Quote
For a few brief days they were disconcerted - but, fortunately, not for long. A calm statement from the Society pointed out that the mere fact of a satellite moving above us did not show the world to be round. It could equally well be the more plausible flat disk, and the satellite would move in much the same way as the Moon, though at a lower level. This satisfied the dedicated enthusiasts.

So the FES did concede that sustained space flight is indeed possible.  ;D
