What led you to believe the earth is flat?

I was just wondering after posting around this forum why one suddenly believes the earth is flat. Did you read that book everyone talks about? Did you decide it flat because "it looks flat?" Please enlighten me.

Yes.


Then how come when you see the moon at night you can see the non illuminated bit if you look closely enough? if this was an anti-moon it would either have to be constantly changing shape or you would be able to see the bit sticking off when the moon is partially illuminated.

I don't believe - as some others do - that the anti-Moon is responsible for lunar phases, only lunar eclipses.

It was a very rapid and tantalising realisation. Most things I have been taught are just made up. Since then, I have lived life deliberately. Along with many other common beliefs, the belief of the round earth was tossed into the rubbish bin. If you stay long enough, surely you will see how much more thoughtful the FE'ers are from the RE'ers who don't explore reality but accept other people's account of it. They live in pretend land and are angered by those who don't prop up their elaborate fantasy. They are weak in the mind and will. FE'ers are people, RE'ers are their reflection in a mirror. They have no substance but just appear to be something.

I always suspected the Earth was flat, but I believe the first time I really came across evidence for this was when I read Earth Not a Globe, probably the most important science textbook of the last 500 years, and countenanced the great many experiments which prove it to be flat beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Even that great travel writer Bill Bryson does it better than Rowbotham.  Read A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. Widely available.

Did you guys argue with your teachers in school or just secretly thought they were wrong?

Also, you have to be careful about the power of websites because I could go to the Giant Spaghetti Monster website and before long be convinced through some carefully worded arguments that this creature lives on the dark side of the moon...

However I don't believe in god and billions of people do, so in my own way I am part of a minority who believes a conspiracy...  :P
