Can you explain this?
« on: May 24, 2009, 06:12:34 PM »
If the earth truely is flat, why is one side of the planet light while the other is dark. This would only be possible if the earth was a sphere, square, or any kind of 3D object. If the earth was flat also, then there would be a point in the day where the whole earth would be revealed to the sun light. This has never happened on earth and never will. This offically proves the earth is not flat. It may not prove it is a sphere, but not flat. End of story.

hold a book to the light bulb over your head and look up

can you see the light coming through the book?

no because its flat. like earth.

So, standing under the sun is like standing under a book. ???

I don't understand how this answers the question of the day and night cycle.  Unless, there is dark matter rotating around the sky causing some parts of the earth to be in darkness at certain times of the day.
But then, how can we see the stars (since stars are farther than the sun) if this is what's happening. I GOT IT. The dark matter is the "book" we are standing under.
Maybe it is like this

_____dark matter____________       _______________
stars stars stars stars            (      )  stars stars stars
                                         (      )
                                         ( sun)
                                          ----- <---- the angle of this dark matter is different depending where you are on the earth.

Seems perfectly reasonable, with as much credence as any of your explanations, this seems FAQ worthy.

No.

In your example:

sun = light bulb
earth = book
people = people

So you said we are standing under the earth.

here, let me help you out kiddo.

yes, the sun is the light bulb, earth = book, and people are people in my example.

the sun in our sky (the place above our flat earth) is directly over us, in the example.  the flat surface of the top of the book which is receiving the light, represents the flat earth that people stand on.  the peopel are on top of the book, on the surface of the book receiving the light from the bulb/sun above.  the bottom of the book is completely dark and not exposed to the sun (light) above... just like whatever the hecks on the other side of our GLORIOUS flat earth

if this does not help you call your mommy into the room and have her ask me so the grownups can talk :)

-Franklin

ROFL! Who are you to talk like that?  You're just some lonely loser living in mommy's basement.

I happen to personally know an astronaut.  Jeremy Hansen is from my home town of London, Ontario Canada, and our families are long time friends.  I can confirm with 100% certainty that people REALLY have gone into space. Space stations, and satellites do in fact exist, and everyone who buys into this ridiculous "theory" are nothing more than keyboard warriors who have done nothing of significance in their lives, and are just lonely.

You have no evidence to back any of this up.  This idea that they are covering up the true shape of the earth in an objective to fraudulently fund a fake space exploration program is laughable. How are the two things connected?  They could just as easily say the Earth is flat, and have photos of the "flat earth" from space.  These two insanely idiotic "theories" make no sense together.

You guys are hilarious.

That's right.  And that applies to you, and everyone on this website.  You have no proof.  Just your words, and ideas.

And there is proof of a round Earth.  You choose to call it fake, and part of a conspiracy.

You can't prove something to someone who refuses to believe it.

I was actually trying to illustrate the absurdity of your claim, as I have personally never seen a round Earth; it looks flat to me.  I suspect the same is true of you, but thanks to the RE bias that has brainwashed your mind you apparently see something so obviously flat and immediately think it's round.  In truth I feel kind of sorry for you.

what about the Coriolis effect?... that when you are shooting any type of rifle over a long distance you have to take that into effect because it is caused by the round shape of the earth... and if you think i was brainwashed about that... go get a permit buy a sniper rifle... set up a pop can on a day with no wind and set the pop can up at a far distance but make sure you can still see the pop can... line up the crosshairs in the middle of the can and watch yourself miss because there is an effect on the bullet called the Coriolis effect.

Although the dark matter thing is an actual good idea, you can not prove dark matter is really there so and prove that it causes it so it is not a fact. My question is a fact and has been proven so I'm sorry. I actually thank you for trying to answer my questions unlike people pEople like space cow girl. She is a fucking retard with no social life because she has the inability to get along with others. All she does is sit here and call people wrong without any fact. So to space cow girl, me, and the rest of the world give you a nice handy dandy  FUCK YOU. If you could sit here and be reasonabal and answer questions and not just bitch at everyone then I would respect you. As for frank and dark matter guy I respect you because you have beliefs that aren't fucking retarded and you can somewhat explain why you believe them. So thank you, and fuck you to the rest.

secondly, you seem to be discussing the issue of day and night, yes?  going back to my light/book example, just imagine now there are two lights, one representing the sun, and the other the moon. they simple revolve over our earth, as outlined in this diagram:

(yes, I've removed the diagram, we dont need to see it again)

i hope this helps.

Wow is that an accurate representation of sunlight on earth? That would mean the UK would always gets less than 12 hours sunlight.

http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/weather/sunshine.htm

I think you will find they tell you that at different times of the year the "orbit" circles get larger or smaller in order to move the sun north or southwards and so therefore put more sunlight over certain areas during their local summer.

What mechanism would make this happen is unknown as far as I know (theory anyone?). There is an additional problem in that as the circle got smaller (ie, northern summer) the sun would have to slow down. I know the FE sun isnt that big but it is still huge and massive. How it sheds that much kinetic energy and then gains it again to go faster during the southern summer is also beyond me.

Also I'm not aware of anyone in the southern "hemisphere" (outer areas?) ever having reported the sun moving across the sky faster than it does towards the north pole.

Nice animated diagram though FlattyFrank :)
The Universal Accelerator is a constant farce.

Flattery will get you nowhere.

From the FAQ - "In general, we at the Flat Earth Society do not lend much credibility to photographic evidence."

yes hi.. you are starting to catch on, kind of. first, i will explain my example a little clearer

no, standing under the sun is like standing on top of a book, just being underneath the sun, which is the light ABOVE the book. the other side of that book, however, is dark and we do not know everything about the other side of the flat earth. the main idea of the example was to say to him (the original poster), is that just because one side of the earth is light, doesnt mean the other is too. a book is solid and flat, and stops the light from illuminating through it -- same with our earth.

secondly, you seem to be discussing the issue of day and night, yes?  going back to my light/book example, just imagine now there are two lights, one representing the sun, and the other the moon. they simple revolve over our earth, as outlined in this diagram:

Although it is interesting, not every place on the planet would get 12 hours of sunlight which means that is not possible. Although it is an interesting theory.  And you said it could possibly be a change in the suns patterns, Im pretty sure the sun doesnt move at all because it has already been proven that the sun is larger then the earth which means the sun can not revolve around the earth but instead the opposite.

This is because the soulwash principle causes a daily seperation of good and evil leading to the good being divided from teh bad along the four-dimensional equator.  This causes what appears to be a rotation of light across the two-dimensional earth.
